Alejandra O'Leary

Originally from Maine Alejandra O'Leary is living and working in one of the greatest cities in the world. As a Singer/Songwriter living in New York City, Alejandra is making music that is gaining her a loyal fan base. Alejandra rocks hard with her melodious tunes and insane guitar that will have you believing in GIRL POWER. Check out this recent spotlight with our Webzine that Alejandra completed the other day. Enjoy!

Isaac: Hi, Welcome to your interview with Junior's Cave. Now that 2008 has officially ended, what are your reflections of the year 2008 for you as an artist?

Alejandra: For me, and for many many other people, 2008 will always mean the election of President Barack Obama. It was one of the most moving and inspiring events that a lot of us will ever be a part of.

In a parallel sense, 2008 was also a year of amazing (literally, I'm amazed) personal and musical momentum for me. I wrote lots of new songs and began work on a full-length album that will be out this summer. I met Doug Kwartler, a super gifted producer and musician, and we've been making lots of new music together. I feel so gratified to be making music as a life pursuit, and I'm so happy that music was a central focus of my life in 2008.

Isaac: What has drawn you to wanting to make music?

Alejandra: I have wanted to make music since I was a little kid -- it's the most richly challenging and pleasurable activity I've ever found. One big goal I have for my music is to convey to people some of the pleasure the and challenge that I feel making music, to get those feelings to be a part of the listener's experience.

Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?

Alejandra: My favorite musicians have always been The Beatles. Their music is a life-long puzzle that I have been trying to figure out since I was a teenager. I love them in so many ways. They are so complicated and provocative and crazy and ecstatic -- all attractive qualities. Looking at the "Top 25 Most Played Songs" on my laptop, I also see Wolf Parade, Conor Oberst, Al Green, and the Strokes.

Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?

Alejandra: A bunch of catchy rock songs that I hope people will like to dance to and think about.

Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?

Alejandra:Oh, I don't know. Kanye West! I'm sure he could do inspired things with anyone's songs. And I have some sweet hooks he could loop.

Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?

Alejandra: Catchy, elaborate, dreamy, desperate, pop music.

Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from your previous releases?

Alejandra: This new record will be my first solo release. Other CDs I've made with my previous bands have been described as "outrageous" and "sugary".

Isaac: What can fans expect from your latest CD, you are working on currently? What is the inspiration behind the CD?

Alejandra: The new CD is going to be super cool! Doug Kwartler, who is producing and playing on the record with me, has done a bang-up job and I am so excited about the way everything is sounding. There is no single inspiration behind the record. The inspiration was the goal of making a thrill-inducing record!

Isaac: Where can fans locate you at online?

Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans?

Alejandra: Hi to everyone who reads this magazine! Thanks for reading and for listening to music. Also, feel free to get up and dance around.

Isaac: Final words...

Alejandra: I'll be easy to find.
