Junior's Cave Webzine recently spoke to Daniel Tonkin and Jeremiah Czernecki of Already Gravity about the band's music and their plans for 2010. What our Webzine discovered about the Experimental / Live Electronics band is that they have the talents, heart, passion, and soul to take them all the way to the top of the music industry. Check out what Daniel and Jeremiah revealed to us in this online conversation. Enjoy!
Isaac: What are you currently up to?
Dan: We are currently booking and playing live shows in and around the New York City area, as well as throughout the Northeast. We are also working on a bunch of new tracks for our upcoming first full length album.
Isaac: When you compose a song where do you get your ideas from and how does a song evolve?
Dan: Most of the ideas for the songs that I personally write can start off as a simple riff, beat or bass note. I'll be like, Ok that sounds kind of interesting, how would it sound with some keys over this part, and how about if some vocals hit right here. After that I'll run the ideas by Jeremiah, he'll start further building beats around all the sounds and before you know it, we have the foundation of a song. This process sometimes takes months, or sometimes a few hours for us. I would also like to add, that for me, the song writing process feels very visual with the finished product feeling much like a painting. Yet, unlike a painting where you're using your eyes, I'm attempting to paint a picture in the listeners mind.
Jeremiah: I find that a song will generally write itself when I least expect it. If I am in the mindset that I am going to write a song, I am not going to get anywhere. However if I am just sitting around riffing or banging away on the drums something will come to me that I can build around, be it a lyrical phrase or a melody. The best songs are always the ones that are effortless. Dan and I have been playing together for years and we have developed a great chemistry, almost like we can read each others minds while playing. This makes attempting new material surprisingly easy and we quickly get to the stage where we can tweak the material and make it more unique to the ear.

Isaac: What are the rewards and challenges about being in a band?
Dan: Some of the rewards for me would be the creative freedom, the increased individual confidence, as well as the chance to really let my inner child run wild for a little bit. Being in a band you really learn a lot about yourself and the people you're working with on a project. When I refer to working on a project, I don't mean work in the traditional sense, yet rather like working on a tree house when your a kid. Just about everything with being in a band is a challenge, this is what makes it exciting and interesting. I've always loved the overall challenge of the live show as well, getting up in front of people, setting up, the butterflies, heart racing, and the energy of it all; it's like riding a bike down hill with no brakes. You can practice hard every day for years and years, yet nothing kills self doubt quicker then playing a live set.
Jeremiah: I would say that both the reward and the challenge for us is getting out there on stage and entertaining a crowd as best as we can. There's nothing quite like the excited anxious feeling I get before a show when I am setting up, and the literal high that I am on when we finish and we know we have done a great show.
Isaac: What tracks does the band most enjoy performing live and why?
Dan: I really love playing the track "Fall Down", simply because it's the hardest song for me to perform live. So yeah, when we're up on stage and it all hits just right, it's truly the best feeling in the world.
Jeremiah: The song I most enjoy playing is "Sunday Afternoon". It is the most challenging to play as well as the most fun, simply because I am all over the place with it. I even throw in some backing vocals on this track, Oh yeah, one more thing, COWBELL!
Isaac: What do you think Already Gravity needs to do to gain more exposure and fans? Has the Internet helped spread the word about the band and its music?
Dan: Already Gravity just needs to keep pushing forward, and as long as we're going hard, having fun, learning from our live sets, networking, being open minded, being fan friendly, as well as continuing to have our art come from a positive, free, and creative place we will continue to learn and grow. As for the Internet, I truly feel it has revolutionized the way we all listen, produce, network and expose our music in general. A great example of this would simply be this interview.
Jeremiah: While the Internet has been a tremendous help in terms of getting our information out there, I would like to add that the real deal remains to be getting out there on the road and playing in front of new people and gaining interest.

Isaac: Could you take us through some highlights of the first studio EP, 'Hello Spaceship'?
Dan: Sure, Hello Spaceship and the music of Already Gravity in general have been in the works for many years now. Yet, it had been put on the back burner do to other life circumstances until finally, this past May 2009 things began to open up, with everything just falling into place. Quickly, Jeremiah who I've played with in other bands over the years, and who I've always thought to be super sick on the drums, was totally down followed by Laura Saliba, an amazing musician/artist who also got on board to help us with some song structure, shows, and tracks. After that we found some affordable studio space, and just like that Already Gravity was born. Over the summer we recorded and practiced relentlessly, and as a result the five best tracks we were working on became our first EP Hello Spaceship. We truly love these tracks, they are our babies, and we hope they will continue to be a great introduction of our sound to the people and creatures of planet earth and a hint of things to come.
Jeremiah: Indeed.
Isaac: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Dan: I really love exploring NYC. I lived in and around the NYC area for most of my life, yet you can always find something new, something to see around every corner.
Jeremiah: I like to check out new places and things that are going on; I am usually up for anything. Bonus Trivia Fact, I am really into American History and studying the paranormal.

Isaac: Message to your fans?
Dan: We would like to say thank you, most definitely to anyone that has kind words for us after we rock a show, this is truly what pushes us to be stronger artists! We'll also continue to work our butts off to be our best, all for your listening pleasure. So, catch us live in 2010, and be on the look out for our first full length album in early next summer, it's only going to get better!!
Isaac: Final Thoughts...
Dan: I want to thank you Isaac for interviewing us on Junior's Cave, you guys are doing great things and as independent artists we can't praise people like yourself enough who help expose the world to artist's like us!
Jeremiah: Thank you for this opportunity to reach new people Isaac, it is much appreciated. KEEP ON ROCKIN' IN THE FREE WORLD!
