New Music Spotlight
April 2009 Edition

Andy Spitson

Andy Spitson

Sonicbids

When I first heard this next artist, the energy, his vocals, and outstanding tunes were what made me want to listen to more from Andy Spitson. As a singer/songwriter, Andy makes music that is fun to listen to and makes you want to sing along with him. Another component to Andy's music is his fusion of Rock and Powerpop into his own creative style. In this recent interview with the very talented artist, Andy allows us to speak with him about his music and what fans can expect from him in 2009. Enjoy!

Isaac: How do you sum up 2008 for Andy Spitson?

Andy: Well, 99% of my gigs were solo acoustic. I've become the house musician at the Potbelly's restaurant in Lake Geneva, WI. It'll be a year with them in June.

Isaac: Name one of the most important single events that has happened to you that made you realize music is your life.

Andy: Playing in the High School talent show my junior year with my band Spinderson. The reaction of a crowd of friends makes you feel famous. Just the confidence, energy and enjoyment the stage brings to my life.

Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?

Andy: Quitting my job to become a full time musician. To have the availability to jump into great opportunities such as joining a touring band.

Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?

Andy: A lot of classic rock bands: Cheap Trick, The Cars, Tom Petty, and Tom Petty in particular. Next time you're driving start flipping through stations; 9 times out of 10 you'll find a Tom Petty song. I think having a hand full of great songs that everyone knows would be great.

Issac: Let's talk about what you feel you would bring to the music industry?

Andy: I recently received a review that described my last E.P. "All Eyes On You" as retrogressive. I really want to bring back basic Rock-n-Roll. Something that will pack dance floors.

Issac: If you had the opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?

Andy: Jack's Mannequin. I would like to see how they get their albums so soaked with emotion. The choruses give me shivers. Simply put, I can really FEEL their music.

Issac: You describe your music as Rock/Powerpop. For those who are not familiar with Powerpop, what is your definition of Powerpop? How are you able to marry the two genres (Rock and Powerpop) into melodious tunes?

Andy: Cheap Trick has always been described as Powerpop. And they have always been a big influence on me. Throw in some guitar solos, turn up the drums and there's your "Rock".

Issac: What type of feedback have you received from your previous releases?

Andy: Everyone tells me I have an Elvis Costello sound. I also hear that at least once a week at shows.

Issac: What can fans expect from you latest CD, you are working on currently? What is the inspiration behind the CD?

Andy: I'm working on another E.P. before I release my full length. Which by the way I'm very excited for. I want to be the "Catchy King". I want the whole album to be stuck in your head, not just one song.

Issac: Where can fans locate you at online?

Andy: www.myspace.com/andyspitson is the best place at the time. Fans can also check out www.andyspitson.com.

Issac: What can fans expect from Andy Spitson in 2009?

Andy: A new rock E.P. in the fall. I would also like to get some local radio airplay. I've also been kicking around the idea of putting a music video together this summer for YouTube.

Issac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends and fans....

Andy: Veronica Lacasse, thank you for being a friend, fan, and supporter of my dream while following yours. Best of luck to you. Mom, Dad, Bro & Sis. You guys have been the backbone of my success. And to all my new friends at the Lake Geneva Potbelly's. You all make what I do even more enjoyable. Thank you all.

Issac: Final words from Andy Spitson...

Andy: Right now I'm really excited for all the new songs and ideas I'm working on. I love the feeling of potential. I'm so blessed with all the events that have unfolded so far with my music and my life.
