AnnAMercury
Wondering if Rock music is still alive and kicking? Then, check out the amazing Rock tunes of the Seattle Indie Rock band AnnAMercury as they are living proof that Rock music is alive and sounding so ever sweet. Recently, in a special spotlight with the members of the band, our Webzine had the distinct pleasure to speaking to the band about their music and their musical influences. Here is what formulated from this online meeting.
Isaac: I just listened to several songs off of your new EP/CD. What was the inspiration for making your new album?
AnnAMercury: I think we all had a back up of creativity that we needed to let out and wanted something tangible to have it on.
This being our first record, it was all about capturing the energy and excitement of brand NEW music and taking the ideas that made us want to play together in the first place, and laying it down on record.
Isaac: Who were your influences?
AnnAMercury: The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, Hendrix, SRV, Stone Temple Pilots, Counting Crows, Matchbox Twenty, 3 Doors Down, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Our Lady Peace, Foo Fighters to John Denver and everything in between.
Isaac: What do you consider to have been the highlight(s) and low point(s) of your career to date?
AnnAMercury: The high points are definitely when we are on stage performing. Getting people to feel your original music that you created definitely gives you a high.
High - hearing our songs on radio and Internet radio across the globe.
I think the low point has been taking a long hiatus at times from not playing.
Low - Also being the total economics of the business.

Isaac: Brief history about your background plus the style of music you play.
AnnAMercury: We all come from different parts of the West Coast, and you can hear it in our music...Mainly the Seattle bands and the party bands from LA. And some of us were raised on country music. For example, like real country like Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and Waylon Jennings. NOT what people now-a-days call "country" like Taylor Swift, Rascal Flatts and Sugarland not to say that they're bad artists per se. Though our heart has always been in rock and roll music.
Isaac: How easy is it to gets gigs for you as an artist? What is the live music scene like in your area?
AnnAMercury: We leave that completely up to Ervin Pulliam (our Manager) . He is a master of his craft and without him, wouldn't know where to start with booking a gig. And some of us have had the pleasure of playing in what I think are the two best cities on the west coast for live music scenes; L.A. and Seattle. We have the greatest manager in the world...He takes care of us and gets our shows booked wherever we're playing them. Well, in terms of cities Seattle has a great music scene that is world famous. So, we are fortunate that is where we are headquartered.
Isaac: What do you think of the state of Indie music at the moment? Do you listen to radio much at all? Has the Internet helped music grow or hindered it in your opinion?
AnnAMercury: Indie music is at its peak because there are so many avenues to get your music played. Radio is still alive and well in the traditional sense and streaming all across the Internet...it's a huge help, the Internet. Ironically enough, we don't listen to the radio as much as we'd like, and therefore am missing out on a lot of new talent out there. Absolutely, think that the Internet has helped music grow tremendously. Definitely, think the Internet has erased a lot of borders worldwide. No longer can you only hear the local sound, but it has made it easier to hear new talent all over the world.
