Isaac: What was the best part of 2008 for you musically?
Cary Judd: Writing and recording my new album "Goodnight Human".
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
Cary Judd: Writing, producing, performing, and engineering the record myself.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in area.
Cary Judd: I don't really belong to any one area; I'm touring nationally 6 months out of the year. Where I live in Moose, WY, I pretty well am the music scene, being that there's a population of about 65 people.
Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?
Cary Judd: I performed at a barn in the middle of nowhere in Minnesota, it was really strange and really beautiful, and they crammed about 400 people into this remote barn complete with a giant sound and light system. When we hit the low bass notes I was afraid we might literally shake the barn apart.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Cary Judd: As far as musicians, I grew up with U2, The Cure, The Smiths and music along those lines being played in my house from when I was about 5 years old. My older sister was 18 when I was born; I was kind of an accident. My dad is a huge fan of Woodstock era music so the Beatles, Led Zepplin, Hendrix, CCR, CSN, were always being spun as well as Simon & Garfunkle, Queen, Nick Drake. The list goes on and on, but those are the few that pop into my head right off.
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
Cary Judd: My songs are a marriage of independent ethic and pop hooks. I guess you could call it independent minded pop. I feel that from a musical standpoint it is universally palatable, but is interwoven with more complex lyric ideas then a typical relationship based pop song."
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Cary Judd: I think a lot of collaborations between like artists can fall short of the mark, I think if I could choose anyone it might be Esa-Pekka Salonen & the L.A. Philharmonic. I lived in southern California for several years and would go to random performances. I think it would be amazing to truly catch the energy and dynamic impact you can only get from an army of acoustic instruments.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Cary Judd: Independent Minded Pop Music. I find describing my music is futile, I think it's easier to just have someone press play and figure that out for themselves from their own perspective what it is.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?
Cary Judd: All kinds. So far it's all been positive. At a show, I played last night I had a long time fan come up and talk to me for a bit, he explained to me that my music had "saved his life" more than once. I don't know whether or not to take that literally, but either way, you can never fully understand the power of a poignant song.
Isaac: Where can fans locate you at online?
Cary Judd: All the regular places, but here's a list for those that have been camping out in caves and have yet to find music on the Internets:
Isaac: What can fans expect from you in the next five years?
Cary Judd: I will be touring extensively over the next 18-24 months to promote "Goodnight Human". I've already begun writing songs for the next record, so I hope to begin recording that between touring in the near future. I'd like to start producing other artists, which I've already begun to do, so definitely more than that. Other than that, just the regular world domination by way of rock & roll stuff.
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans…
Cary Judd: My Fans are the best; they've made it possible for me to live an extraordinary life, I'm grateful to them every day I get up and get to go to work doing what I love.
Isaac: Final words…
Cary Judd: Life is short, we'll all be dead in 80 or so years, so I'm just glad to be living deliberately, doing exactly what it is I am destined to do.
