David Sinclair, George Andrew, and Drew Farmer make up the trio known as David Sinclair Trio. The three members fit nicely together as they complement each other in their musical styles. One of the biggest appeals to David Sinclair Trio is their catchy tunes and fun lyrics. In a recent interview, David Sinclair of David Sinclair Trio speaks one on one with our Webzine.
Isaac: What was the best part of 2008 for you musically?
David Sinclair Trio: I go to maybe 150 shows a year as part of my "other" gig [as a music journalist] - and that's before I even get started on playing my own gigs. So for me 2008 was all about the return of the old-school blues, and in particular the success of Seasick Steve. He's this old hobo guy from California originally, who has become amazingly successful in England. I saw him playing at the rough end of the club scene and then on the festival circuit. Then in November 2008 he got to play at the Royal Albert Hall--what an amazing moment. I met him in Paris a couple of weeks after that gig and he was so inspiring to me. The guy is 67. Talk about coming out of the wilderness! He told me: "Man, just hang in there." No matter how long it takes, where there's a will there's a way.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
David Sinclair Trio: That would be the release of the 2nd album by the David Sinclair Trio, Threewheeling, on a Los Angeles-based label called NovaTunes. Ten new songs. It's the real deal.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in London.
David Sinclair Trio: London has got a music scene of surreal extremes. There are loads of gigs and loads of bands, but not enough fans. Paolo Nutini can be playing at the Electric Ballroom which he could sell out ten times over. It's pandemonium at £18 a ticket. Meanwhile 100 yards down the road there are 10 people watching some no-name band playing for free in the Dublin Castle. The two gigs might as well be on different planets. What I'm looking for is the route from one to the other. Space travel might be the answer.
Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?
David Sinclair Trio: The 100 Club, 100 Oxford Street, London. So much history, so much class. Everyone from the Stones to the Sex Pistols has played there. The New York Dolls are playing there this week. And they probably played there in 1975. The place has a great sound engineer, called Rae. We love him. You gotta love playing this place. Rubbish dressing room, though.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
David Sinclair Trio: The Rolling Stones for being the best in their day and having the strength and guts to go the distance; the greatest singer and the greatest songs. And they come from London. Musically, I guess I'm from the Ray Davies, Paul Weller School of observational, English songwriting.
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
David Sinclair Trio: My love, my wisdom, and my tax contributions.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
David Sinclair Trio: Don Was; an amazing producer and the coolest dude on Planet Rock.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
David Sinclair Trio: Songs that tell you something. It's a traditional guitar trio without the solos - so you're gonna get more Jam than Cream.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?
