New Music Interview

Giorgio

Sonicbids

With an impressive musical background, Giorgio Onorato Aquilani, who was born in Tarquinia on March 8, 1983, composed the official Peace anthem for the year 2000 Jubelee, performing it in the Vatican. He was only 17 years old.

The pianist, singer, and songwriter has enjoyed more recent success as well including in April 2007 receiving a nomination for best pop song at the 17th Annual Los Angeles Music Awards for his song, The End Of My Road. Recently, he completed an online interview with Junior’s Cave.

Here is what developed.

Isaac: Elaborate on who you are and your upbringing in Italy.

Giorgio: My main interest is music...I do that for passion and love. Have created and been involved in many nice international project and now I am currently working on a new album going to feature many friends as long as international superstars. Check my myspace page at http://www.myspace.com/aquilani.

In real life, I do fulltime work in my family firm F.lli Aquilani, url www.aquilani.com as Marketing Director.

And here's a little bio:

[Check out Giorgio’s MySpace for his complete Bio]

Isaac: Was there any one musician that spoke to your heart so profoundly, you were inspired to do your own thing?

Giorgio: For sure... who hasn't? The number one man for me is Elton John... I felt so touched when hearing his love songs album. At that time, I wasn't even 16 years old, and I decided to take a step to the next level turning from a great listener to an active musician, singer, player and songwriter.

Isaac: Which singer/group would you say you would most like to do a duet with?

Giorgio: Please let me give you my top 5: Elton John, Zucchero, TOTO, Dana Glover, Mika.

Isaac: What singer/songwriter do you most connect with?

Giorgio: As I have said before... my main reference is the Elton John / Bernie Taupin duo. And it's a duo even as far as it concerns my writing, since I do write music to my songs and Ivan Nossa does the lyrics.

Isaac: Out of your entire song collection that you've written thus far, which song(s) would you say is/are the most personal/meaningful to you?

Giorgio: It's hard, because there's a bit of us in each song we write... but I'd go for a track called Fate... which is a song about the path of life, how hard is walking it the right way without knowing what future has reserved to us. It's something that reflects my mood very well since I am 25, full of enthusiasm, and even if I am already full of responsibilities in both music and job, I still face future as a potential question mark... you never know what may happen.

Isaac: Which singers/groups do you enjoy/like from some of today's music genres?

Giorgio: Mika, Dana Glover, Robbie Williams, The Ark and few others.

Isaac: What charities are you involved with or support?

Giorgio: EJ AIDS foundation

Isaac: Have you (or would you ever consider) writing a song about any of today's particular world issues/problems? If so, what world issue would speak to you the most to write about?

Giorgio: Actually, we just finished one called "Write Me" And it’s about WAR. It tells the story of a guy writing a friend who went to war. He tires to convince him that it's totally useless and while all his friends are home very well he's risking his life; just another cigarette to add to the big ashtray.

Isaac: Why should people listen to your music?

Giorgio: 'Cause it's new... it's fresh but it has strong old bases.

Isaac: Your music is relaxing and chill. What inspired you to toss out these awesome lyrics and cords?

Giorgio: It's a give to give process... I get lyrics from Ivan, then sit at the piano and see what happens. I firstly get inspired by the metric... just to understand if the tune is going to be a potential ballad or an up-tempo... then I do try to have a look at the meaning ;-) hahaha

Isaac: How far into the creation of a song do you share any of it with anyone? Who would you play it for? Would it be a chorus, a verse and chorus, or a complete song?

Giorgio: I could play the work in progress stuff to some close friends of mine whose opinions are very important to me!

Isaac: How much do you let others "mess around with" one of your new songs?

Giorgio: As much as they need... once I recorded, the song is donated to the public, so I have no control on their "messing around with that".

Isaac: Do you have to be a tortured soul to be a singer-songwriter?

Giorgio: Yes and no... You’ve to be a very sensitive guy, someone who is able to see and feel things from many different points of views. Needless to say that a deep joy as much as a deep sorrow can switch on the circuit of creativity very much easier.

Isaac: Are your songs strictly autobiographical or are they embroidered autobiography?

Giorgio: As told before, there's always a little part of us... but not too much. Each song of mine is a little of the world, a little history, with a start and a end... always try too keep things as much general as possible, so that people can reflect themselves better in the messages.

Isaac: How long does it take you to process your emotions and turn them into songs?

Giorgio: I just sit at the piano when I feel very much touched (both by joy and pain) and let my hands go on the keyboard, closing my eyes... I start to play... on familiar chords! But then it slowly turns into something I never heard before and I say to myself "here's a new song boy”!

Isaac: The best piece of advice you actually followed?

Giorgio: Never stop dreaming...

Isaac: Give Shutouts to your family and friends.

Giorgio: CIAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ! Please show up for some support!

Isaac: Last but certainly not least, what are you working on, now?

Giorgio: I am currently working on a new album going to feature many friends as long as international superstars. Check my MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/aquilani.
