Jean-Pierre Covini
Our next exciting interview takes us all the way to Paris, France with the amazing Jean-Pierre Covini who beautifully composes music that new and old fans will instantly fall in love with. If you are a fan of electonica/dance music, then you will flip over the unique music of Jean-Pierre Covini. In this spotlight with our Webzine, Jean-Pierre talks music with our publication.
Isaac: How do you sum up 2008 for Jean-Pierre Covini?
Jean-Pierre: Hi Isaac and thank you for the interview. Well, one of the most important facts was between 2007 and 2008 when we've got an award at the New York Festival "50 years Radio Broadcasting awards" with my good friend Bertrand Taussac for composing and producing the music of a big serial called " Mission Europe " for Radio France Internationale.
It gave me the feeling that composing music for myself or for media could be appreciated by a lot of people. Though I compose music for years, it was important for me that it comes from NYC. Today is Georgia!! with " Teu Bangalô " and I'm very proud of that.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
Jean-Pierre: On a personal note, we've bought a nice plot of land on a Greek island with my wife Inga to build our future home!!... And on a musical note, let's say that the release of " Teu bangalô " will remain something which strengthened me on my musical career.
Eloisia
Isaac: Describe the music scene in Paris, France.
Jean-Pierre: It's not an easy question because there is a lot of different styles represented in France!!!
For girls and boys who want to have an idea, I suggest two newsletters:
But in one word, for me, the most creative singer of the past five years is Camille (she performs with "Teu Bangalô"'s singer Eloisia on " Nouvelle Vague " album).
Let's say that I have never heard a voice like hers before.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Jean-Pierre: There are lots of them!
Initially, I'm a guitarist, so B.B. King, Jimmy Page and Calvin Keys were my big influences...
Then we could talk about Quincy Jones as a leader in artistic productions and spiritual feelings (his book is so huge, every musician got to read it!).
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
Ludovic
Jean-Pierre: Discovering foreign languages, other ways of singing, other ways to put together music and lyrics.
I think it opens your mind!
I've merged my music with Brazilian, Swedish, Belarus, Japanese, and now Chinese voices, I will not stop... I have released some materials during the past three years and now I'm really producing those music, so for people who like it, let's keep in touch:
I'm painting calligraphies too and that's another part of my life, the same as composing music... playing guitar or playing China ink and watercolours is exactly the same thrill for me.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Could be B.B. King for playing real " blue " guitar, could be Camille for discovery, and could be anybody who will bring me a touch of something new and fresh...
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Jean-Pierre: I can't describe it, just listen to " Teu Bungalô ", " SlowTime " and " Frio Silencio " on the website... if you like it, it's happy news for me and my partners!
I would like to say that I simply love creating and playing music. And also add a little touch of Sound Design (the sound of the sea for example).
I don't want to go on politics, but composing, being on stage is another way to show people there are different ways to be ourselves, to simply live our lives, to be honest and not forget that Life is really short and we've got to protect each other...
Isaac: What is your definition for Electronic Music?
Jean-Pierre: Electronic music today is a mix between 70's pop & rock music, 80's punk & trash music, 90's new-wave & cold-wave music, 2000's DJ's and new generations of composers!
Computers and Daws have been the big revolution! I'm really fascinated by the richness of musical creativities all over the planet, so much music!
But don't forget Stravinsky and the Clash... that's my message!!

Isaac: What can fans expect from Jean-Pierre Covini in 2009?
Jean-Pierre: Well, let's say that six new titles are in preparation this year. Working with Chinese singer Liu Xiaoyang is the best thing that could happen to me at that time.
I'm also preparing some calligraphies exhibitions. Finally, I'm just a happy boy!
Bertrand
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans…
Jean-Pierre: Well first let's say hello to the artists who helped me to released "Teu Bangalô".
A sweet and romantic voice and a very elegant woman, she worked with Kaoma, Alpha Blondy, Marcello, Southfull Brifo, Marc Collin (Nouvelle Vague), Maido Project, Meeco (forthcoming album: "Amargo Mel" with Eddie Henderson, Ron Carter, David Newman, Hubert Laws).
Usually, she listens to the basic tracks of a tune, disappears for two weeks with the demo, then comes back saying "I've got an idea", then sings... and everybody says "Waooo, that's it!"
A very keen and bright-eyed friend, he made the drums of Teu Bangalô. The guy has been working in London studios for 5 years and produced the album "Dusted Down".
He has also worked in the music industry, collaborating on projects with LeftField, Stereophonics, Innercity and Joe Strummer's last album.
