Jefferson Hendricks
Jefferson Hendricks
Recently, I had the opportunity to speak one on one with Jefferson Hendricks; an artist who has a firm grasp on the music that he makes. One of his strongest points is his rugged voice and his southern rock guitar playing abilities. In this interview, after he wished a warm greeting to everyone at Juniors Cave, we begin to discuss about what he felt 2008 meant to him as an artist. Jefferson stated that "Any year that I write and record more than five good songs, it's a good year". Jefferson also stated that he felt 2008 was a good year in which he had a ton of fun making music.
We also begin to discuss some of the earlier life of Jefferson which helped contribute to who he is today as a musician. At the age of five or six, Jefferson could remember a close family friend making a comment on another friend's music. The group was the Five Americans and the friend of Jefferson's family stated that when she heard a song from the Five Americans on the radio, that song was simply beautiful. From that moment when a close friend of the family made that statement, Jefferson's wanted to write songs and play music sense then.
When I asked who was his biggest influences and why, Jefferson stated that he places the most emphasis on the songs. And the artists that he enjoyed the most that had amazing songs where from iconic musicians such as Billy Joel, Cat Stevens, Bob Seger, and the Beatles. As far as what he wants to bring to the music industry, Jefferson is hoping that all of his songs come across as great songs that have a happy, positive place in someone's life. He even concluded that "Maybe years from now they'll [fans] think of me".
As the interview progressed, I asked Jefferson who would he like to work with in the music industry. Jefferson revealed "Hard question. I've been playing alone for so long most anyone would be fun".
When I asked how he would describe his music, Jefferson explained that his music has always been hard to label although at times he would coin his music as being in the Pop Genre.
When asked how he handles feedback from music reviewers and critics, Jefferson explained that "I guess the best thing I can say about the feedback I've received is that the reviews have been motivating and no one said I sucked. I haven't had that many reviews". As the interview was approaching to a close, I asked him when we should expect to hear new music from him. Jefferson explained that his latest CD should be on the market around late spring of this year.
As far as where does he gather his inspiration, Jefferson states that his inspiration comes from his perception of the world from his back porch! He also hopes this inspiration represents as many hearts and minds as he can, with a song.
