Junior Giant

Sonicbids

The Salt Lake City, UT Garage band is making music that is moving people across the globe. For those who are Rock-n-Roll lovers, Junior Giant is the perfect choice. What really makes this band stand out is the raw energy that can be easily heard when you listen to their music. First place winner of the Converse/Journey's "Get the Band Out of The Garage" (out of 4000 bands); Junior Giant is proving that fans from all over are loving the band's music. In this special spotlight with Junior's Cave, Junior Giant talks music with our webzine.

Isaac: How do you sum up 2008 for Junior Giant?

Junior Giant: 2008 was year of breakthroughs and tangible validations that Junior Giant's music moved the people.

Isaac: What do you feel was the band's biggest accomplishment for 2008?

Junior Giant: Winning a spot in the top 10 out of 4000 bands in (those are long odds): www.getoutofthegaragemusiccontest.com.

This contest was sponsored by Converse Shoes and Journey's Stores. Junior Giant has received a lot of press from this event plus our song "Beside You" aka "Hey La" in this case.

Isaac: Describe the music scene in Marin County, California.

Junior Giant: Spencer, our lead singer/writer age 19, was born in Marin County. But the band Junior Giant was conceived and lives in Salt Lake City UT. Spencer at age 10 moved to Utah to ski The Wasatch Mountains and become one of the youngest "Big Mountain Skiers" on the semi-pro ski circuit. Spencer has taken the fearless skills to ski off a 50 foot cliff and has applied them to jumping on stage in front of thousands of rock music fans.

Isaac: Elaborate on the concept behind Junior Giant.

Junior Giant: 'Junior' implies young or small and 'Giant' is the opposite, so it is the concept the small beginnings can lead to big positive accomplishments.

Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?

Junior Giant: There is a gentlemen lawyer, Nat Weiss. Nat managed The Beatles first and only USA tour back in the 60's. Spencer and his brother Simon sat with Nat in NYC and learned first hand of the ups and downs of the most influential music group in the world. Nat showed Simon and Spencer type written contracts and personal letters from Brian Epstein and John Lennon dating back to the early 60's. Nat Weiss though retired now, was the greatest music attorney of his time.

Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?

Junior Giant: Junior Giant: Spencer Linsley 19, JT Nebeker 21 and Skip Hardy 22 bring back the 'heart' in the heart of rock and roll. Music for the people not for the stardom. Stardom is a natural occurring event in response to music that the general public can relate to.

Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?

Junior Giant: We'd love to open for The Rolling Stones, because they are group that has survived it all with dignity and class. And physically can still out run anyone out there and have 'the heart' which they gladly share with their fans.

Isaac: I read in your bio that the band was selected by MTV to open "MTV's Choose or Lose Tour" Salt Lake City. What did this mean to you as a band?

Junior Giant: Validation from the big boys, the industry itself that Junior Giant is a viable product/band.

Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?

Junior Giant: Easy to like, easy to love and easy to dance or sing along with. Junior Giant's music is meant to make you feel good.

Isaac: What is your definition for Alternative Music?

Junior Giant: This is an over used term. It used to mean an alternative to mainstream Top 40 music, but that is what it is now. Mainstream Top 40 music. You know what? That is OK.

Isaac: Describe the feeling you received when you were First place winner of the Converse/Journey's "Get the Band Out of The Garage" (out of 4000 bands) 12/08.

Junior Giant: A great sense of accomplishment and validation that Junior Giant is on the right track to taking 'homemade' music back to the public.

Isaac: Where can fans locate you at online?

Junior Giant: www.sonicbids.com/juniorgiant (there is a lot of music, video and the back-story here) and a "contact" email button. Also, www.juniorgiant.com or MySpace.

Isaac: What can fans expect from Junior Giant in 2009?

Junior Giant: Junior Giant is going bust out this year, sow the seeds for a long career and play a ton of good shows. Look for a Junior Giant 10-12 song Album CD or Download coming early June 09. Produced by the band.

Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans?

Junior Giant: Peace up, love you all...Dustin Simon Dessa The Nebeker's all you great fans (you know who you are) and Spencer's mom Anmarie.

Isaac: Final words from Junior Giant?

Junior Giant: Hey it's been tough out there for a lot of people, let's all work together to make this a better world, that may sound 'corny' but we all got to live here.
