Kaisor Sosa
Our Webzine recently spent some time chatting online with a Rapper on the Rise who is delivering powerful socially conscious and thought-provoking lyrics that fans are enjoying. Kaisor Sosa (aka Ryan Glover) is a man who is on a mission to let the world know of his life-altering experiences. With the debut of his first studio album Cop and Blow, the Chicago emcee is heating up the music industry with his raw talents. Check out what Kaisor Sosa had to say about his music in this special spotlight. Enjoy!
Isaac: I just listened to one of your songs from your CD. What was the inspiration for making your new album?
Kaisor Sosa: I wanted to make an album that was a perfect expression of who I am as a person. I think I'm a balanced individual so you hear a lot of depth on "Cop and Blow" with fun party tracks like "Young Fresh 2 Def" and more social commentary with a song like "The People" featuring Stic Man of Dead Prez.
Isaac: Who were your influences?
Kaisor Sosa: Groups like Dead Prez, Tragedy Khadafi, AZ. Anyone who makes real hip hop music.
Isaac: What do you consider to have been the highlight(s) and lowpoint(s) of your career to date?
Kaisor Sosa: The highlight would be being Indie Grind in Hip Hop Weekly in 2008 and the lowpoint would be spending most of that year homeless on the streets of Long Beach.
Isaac: Brief history about your background plus the style of music you play.
Kaisor Sosa: Well, I’m the 105th African American since 1899 to graduate from the college I went to. I honorably served this country in the Coast Guard. I’ve opened for groups like Dead Prez and legends like Slick Rick. And I’ve got collaborations with Naledge from Kidz in the Hall and Stic Man of Dead Prez on my debut album. I’ve been in a good number of feature films as a background extra as well. Like the AZ song "I’m rather unique".
Isaac: How easy is it to gets gigs for you as an artist? What is the live music scene like in your area?
Kaisor Sosa: It’s an up and coming struggle for artists because promoters are all on that play to play bullshit. It’s really about networking and creating your own opportunities to be heard.
Isaac: What do you think of the state of Indie music at the moment? Do you listen to radio much at all? Has the Internet helped music grow or hindered it in your opinion?
Kaisor Sosa:I think it’s a lot of good Indie groups but the problem is the game is over saturated. I think the Internet has hindered music because its way to many groups on MySpace that probably shouldn't be there and it takes away from the individuals whom make real music because it is so much bullshit.
Isaac: If you could create a fantasy band - what would be the line-up and why?
Kaisor Sosa: I think it’s already been created; it’s called Slaugherhouse (laughs).
Isaac: What CD's do you currently have available and where can they be purchased from?
Kaisor Sosa: Cop and Blow on iTunes.
Isaac: Where can fans access your music, videos, blogs, and anything else about you online?
