New Music Spotlight March 2009 Edition
Lachi
Lachi
She has a sound that will easily distinguish her from other artists. With a voice that speaks to music lovers' heart & soul, Lachi is creating something through her music that is memorable. The extremely talented Singer/Songwriter recently completed an online interview with our Webzine as she shares a piece of who she is with our readers. Enjoy!
Isaac: Hi, Welcome to your interview with Junior's Cave. Now that 2008 has officially ended, what are your reflections of the year 2008 for you as an artist?
Lachi: The year 2008 was a huge stepping stone for me. Apart from being the year I recorded my album, made many connections and met a multitude of great musicians and producers, in 2008, for the first time, I met a lot of other visually impaired people and learned to embrace the fact about myself. I learned a lot about myself personally and musically, this I feel is the first step to creating something beautiful musically, and I have 2008 to thank for that revelation.
Isaac: What has drawn you to wanting to make music?
Lachi: As a baby, I did not learn to speak until my mother bought me a keyboard. I suppose I've always been magnetically drawn to music. Music moves me in a way no mere words, mood enhancers or human touch ever could.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Lachi: Probably the Beatles for not only their bold songwriting, but their pushing of envelopes of all things music. Other influences are Alanis Morissette, Bjork and Fiona Apple.
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
Lachi: I am bringing openness and honesty in music. The human soul is full of a wider range of emotion than love, heart-break, unrequited love, and jealously. If music evolved for us to cope, then music must be created for the human species to cope with the vast range of emotions they hold. I try to attack some of the other areas of emotion, while keeping the music as universal as possible.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Lachi: Bjork because her music has moved me greatly.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Lachi: My music has been dubbed piano driven, jazz influenced, femme, alternative, adult contemporary…I describe it as welcoming, warm, a little shy but coquettishly poised in social settings….I describe it as I would describe myself.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from your previous releases?
Lachi: My previous release "And This is my Life," has been described by listeners as touching, honest, passionate, and soulful. (www.cdbaby.com/cd/lachi)
Isaac: What can fans expect from your latest CD? What is the inspiration behind the CD?
Lachi: In the Ugly Beautiful EP I explore the emotions of empowerment, the longing to be more honest, love of mankind, inner-beauty and well of course, a song about a Broken Heart. It's a blend of alternative rock classical piano and jazz vocals.
Lachi: Shows! Shows! Shows! Continue to check back to www.ulachi.com for tour updates.
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans?
Lachi: I have to give a shout out to my Mother Dr. Marcellina Offoha for being the driving force for all of my determination; my brothers and sisters; my friends and fans; Arthur Gwynne for putting up with all the horrible songs I write about him, and the good ones. I'd also give a shout out to all the musicians who've helped me with the album especially Andrew Boxer, Gabriel Chang and Jent Lapalm as well as The6412Ltd.
Isaac: Final words?
Lachi: Again the CD can be purchased at www.cdbaby.com/cd/lachi2. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed creating it. A big thanks to JuniorsCave!
