New Music Spotlight August/September 2009 Edition
Leah Pritchard
Leah Pritchard
If you want to know what you are getting when you listening to the music of Leah Pritchard, then think of Southern Rock meets Country laced over strong female vocals with melodious tunes. This is what I thought of when I first heard such wonderful and fun tracks like "Finally the Weekend" and "City Lights". Leah delivers every note with conviction and power that fans will instantly fall in love with this talented Singer/Songwriter. Leah recently spoke to our Webzine about her music and roots in this special spotlight. Check it out for yourself.
Isaac: What has been the best part of 2009 for you musically so far?
Leah: The best part has been seeing a song come to life. My newest song "Stronger than Your Whiskey" was an incredible experience for me. I wrote the song sitting in the studio (Guest House Studios, Eclectic, Al.). I got a hands-on feel in the studio and a feeling that actually said "Hey, Leah you CAN do this".
Isaac: What do you feel has been the biggest accomplishment for 2009 so far?
Leah: Growth and patience has been the biggest accomplishment for me. I wanted to rush everything. I've come to find that if you are patient and wait for something, it means so much more in the long run.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in your area.
Leah: There is a wide venue across the Lake Martin and Auburn areas, but mainly Rock and Country. In the Montgomery areas, there are a lot of blues type artists. Regardless of where you are performing in Alabama or what genre you are playing, people will enjoy it. People here love music and there is nothing better than to perform to a crowd that you already know is going to enjoy you.
Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?
Leah: Jubilee City Fest Montgomery, Al. Jubilee is an exciting fun filled weekend of concerts. All different genres are set up on separate stages in down town Montgomery. Big names perform there each and every year. I had the pleasure of opening for The Lost Trailers and Darius Rucker.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Leah: Miranda Lambert and Gretchen Wilson. Why? Because they say "look at us, we are Country women who like to rock." We write songs from the heart; songs that speak the truth and we get up on a stage and perform. They love what they do and they believe their music. They're great!
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
Leah: A different sound. I'm a mix between Tanya Tucker and the modern day Miranda and Gretchen. I have a strong southern twang. I have a different feel for song writing in which I believe everyone will enjoy from teens to adults. I want everyone to love my music and I'll do whatever it takes to please my fans and keep them coming back for more.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Leah: Kenny Chesney. He loves his fans and he loves concerts. I love to perform and that's what I want to do more than hearing my songs on radio. I want the forever life changing moments of performing live to people and seeing them react.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Leah: It's emotional and at the same time fun.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?
Leah: A lot of different things actually. I had some one tell me just the other day that they loved "Finally the Weekend" because it mentioned Chimney Rock on Lake Martin and how people spend their summers here. Also, someone told me that my ballad types or softer songs are the ones that bring tears to their eyes. Tears are what I want. I thrive to hear songs that grab you by the heart and pour out raw emotion.
Isaac: What can fans expect from you in the next five years?
Leah: Improvement. Everyday I improve an inch more. My songwriting, performance, and singing will all improve. I don't settle.
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans...
Leah: Mom, Dad, Brooke, Tyler, and Beau. I love ya'll thank ya'll for sticking it through with me. Tony and Jody for absolutely everything. Brian, Justin, and Mark; thanks for being great performers and having my back on stage.
Isaac: Final words...
Leah: I'd like to thank you, Isaac for having me and listening to my music. I truly appreciate the opportunity to share my music with you.
