Lisha Cash
From cool pop singles like “Ex-Girlfriend” and “Stupid Boy”, Indie Pop Singer Lisha Cash is building up quite an impressive resume when it comes to her music. Cash sings with a level of passion, creativity, and spunk that fans will find enjoyable. In this spotlight with our Webzine, Cash speaks about her music and what she wants others to take from it. Here is what we also discussed with the pop singer in this online conversation.
Isaac: I just listened to one of your songs from your CD. What was the inspiration for making your new album?
Lisha: I finished my first album and I was really happy about it and I took a few years off to complete my university degree. My inspiration for my new album is basically my life experiences thus far. I have finished school and I’m ready to focus on music. I am doing a bit more of a rock/pop style than my first album and I think that is a reflection of my growth as an artist and a person.
Isaac: Who were your influences?
Lisha: I really look up to Taylor swift, she is an amazing song-writer and, like myself, started writing music at a very early age. I appreciate Avril Lavigne’s work, and I’m looking forward to hearing more from her soon. I also love Carrie Underwood, Chantal Kreviazuk and The Fray.
Isaac: What do you consider to have been the highlight(s) and lowpoint(s) of your career to date?
Lisha: I think the highlight of my career was my fundraiser for Haiti. I had a show that I organized myself and we raised $1000. It was somewhat last minute and, with the help of my family, had a raffle and a 12 song set. It was an amazing experience.
My lowpoint was with my first album. I felt like it wasn’t getting the reaction I had hoped for and wasn’t going very far. It was discouraging at first but it really motivated me to make my next album amazing and learn from my past mistakes.

Isaac: Brief history about your background plus the style of music you play.
Lisha: I’ve been writing music since I was eight years old, around the same time I started taking piano lessons. Around age ten, I started performing in musicals and became highly interested in musical theatre. I attended Wexford School for the Arts where I was a member of Musical Theatre and performed in eleven shows in my four years. I also took vocal lessons for four years to better my vocal skills. During high school, I started recording music with a few boys from school and by the time I was 19 I had finished my first C.D. My style of music for my second album is centered around the pop/rock genre.
Isaac: How easy is it to gets gigs for you as an artist? What is the live music scene like in your area?
Lisha: It’s pretty difficult for me to get gigs in Toronto. It is a great music scene but not particularly for myself. I am a pop singer and most pubs/bars have either metal/rock bands, or guitar/acoustic type music. I also have had some band members moving around so to get a solid band together for shows hasn’t been easy. My next move is to learn my songs on guitar and start performing in open mic’s to get my music out there.
Isaac: What do you think of the state of Indie music at the moment? Do you listen to radio much at all? Has the Internet helped music grow or hindered it in your opinion?
Lisha: I think Indie music is doing well at the moment. I think a lot more people are steering away from mainstream and starting to become more interested in different types of music. I listen to the radio all the time because I drive a lot and I always like to hear what’s hot in the industry right now. It’s good to know what fans are listening to, especially since my genre is perfect for top 40 radio.
I think that for the music industry as a whole, downloading on the Internet has seriously hindered it. However, for the independent artist it has opened SO many opportunities. YouTube, MySpace, Facebook and Sonicbids has allowed for people to get noticed so much more easily.
Anyone can put anything they want on the Internet and hope the world will see it. I think it has provided so many exposure opportunities to independent artists.

Isaac: What CD's do you currently have available and where can they be purchased from?
Lisha: Right now I am working on my second album, and due to the differences I have seen in my music from the first album, I will not be selling that one. My website, www.lishacash.com is in the process of being created so by mid June, 2010 people should be able to purchase individual songs from there.
Isaac: Where can fans access your music, videos, blogs, and anything else about you online?
Lisha: I just wanted to thank them for all of the support and let them know how much I appreciate them listening to my music and following my career. Hopefully they’ll be able to make it out to some shows! I will keep them posted on my website when it is running! Thanks guys! Love you all.
