New Music Spotlight July 2009 Edition
Michael Darwin's Theory
Michael Darwin's Theory
Besides both being super talented guitarists the coolest part about this next band is the fact that the two members of the group is a father/daughter duo. Michael and Sophie are the perfect musical family combination as they bring to the music industry a mixture of Dance Grooves, Rap, and Classic Hard Rock. Add the unique Operatic/Rock vocal into the equation; the outcome is brilliant. Here is the official interview that our Webzine completed with Michael Darwin's Theory. Enjoy!
Isaac: What was the best part of 2009 for you musically?
Sophie: We had the honor of playing for many Purple Heart veterans in Texas. It was a great thrill for us.
Michael: It was wonderful for us to be able to show our support to these great Americans.
Sophie: Plus, Texan food is amazing.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2009?
Michael: We're very proud to have put out our album in January and we hope people like it.
Sophie: If you play it backwards, you can hear me say "My solos are better than his."
Isaac: Describe the music scene in area.
Sophie: In Toronto, the scene is fairly mixed. There's a variety of original and cover bands. In South Florida, I sadly feel the scene is more limited.
Michael: There are gigs though if you want to play for the ninety year-olds beside the pool.
Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?
Michael: Over the years, I've been lucky to play hundreds of gigs. But I must say, the highlight of my career is playing on stage with my daughter.
Sophie: If only I felt the same... (Just kidding).
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Michael: Of course, for me, it's the classic rockers. Number one Jimi Hendrix.
Sophie: I love the classic rockers but I'm also influenced by Rage Against the Machine, Nirvana, Muse, Kasabian and classic jazz like Wes Montgomery and Oscar Peterson.
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
Michael: Well hopefully, we bring some great guitar. But besides that, I hope people hear our message, especially in songs like "Saints and Saviors", "Love Will Be The Answer" and "The Bogeyman", which is basically let's not concentrate on what we can't do, let's concentrate on what we can do.
Sophie: Yeah, through music, let's make this a better world together.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Sophie: David Bowie because I think he's one of the most innovative and
creative artists in the industry.
Michael: Duffy. Let's leave it at that.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Michael: Big guitar, big sound.
Sophie: I think we really blend classic rock with modern styles like dance and hip-hop.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?
Michael: Luckily it's been positive.
Sophie: Yeah, we're waiting for the hate mail to show up.
Isaac: Where can fans locate you at online?
Michael: We would be more than happy for people to locate us at our website www.michaeldarwinstheory.com where you can download our entire album for no charge whatsoever and you don't even have to register. Just come and get it.
Sophie: Nothing would make us happier than sharing our music with everyone.
Isaac: What can fans expect from you in the next five years?
Michael: You certainly can expect another album coming soon and more albums to follow. We hope to secure proper representative (management, record company, etc.) and we are quite keen to tour and bring our music all across the country.
Sophie: We really want to gain more exposure and have more people enjoy our music.
Michael: On a personal note, I would like to thank you Isaac for this great opportunity to be on Junior's Cave. It is greatly appreciated and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Sophie: Thank you very much. We really appreciate this and keep on rockin'.
