The artist recently shared with our Webzine some background information about him in this new spotlight. Enjoy!
Isaac: I just listened to one of your songs off your new EP/CD. What was the inspiration for making your new album?
Michael: That's after my meeting with Gregory Jesbac, when I decided to work on a new album. We are neighbors' and live in a small village in the surrounding of Paris. We met at the cafe of the village where Greg organized Jam Sessions on Friday. It is immediately heard, both humanely as musically.
Naturally, we have begun to work together. First on stage in acoustics (Voice, Cajon and Guitar), then we have built a recording studio in my house. This album is rather melancholic; topics are friendship, love, and climate...
There are not other performers on this album and it was as a challenge. Indeed we are multi instrumentalists, what we license to play in a first time bass battery, then the piano guitars and finally the voice. It took great pleasure to record this album, and we hope that you will take
good time listening to songs.
Isaac: Who were your influences?
Michael: During the period of creation of this new album, I was influence mostly by the Anglo-Saxon Pop from the 70-80's. I believe that this period has been very rich musically.
Isaac: What do you consider to have been the highlight(s) and lowpoint(s) of your career to date?
Michael: At this stage, the highlight of my career is this new album as I put inside lot of me, but also the first time I appeared on TV, the hundred of concert I performed in France, even when there were not at lot of fans around me. May be the lowpoints, were when I began, the difficulty to play in public, to find gigs.
Isaac: Brief history about your background plus the style of music you play.
Michael: I started really young as an author composer and singer. I perform a lot on stage in East of France and then in Paris. I won several price and have the opportunity to be seen on TV and that some of my song were played on radio. Essentially, my music is French Pop but I have also some song more R&B and Soul.
Isaac: How easy is it to gets gigs for you as an artist? What is the live music scene like in your area?
Michael: For me at the beginning, it was difficult to find gigs in Paris. You first need to create your own network and to extend it every day to find more gigs. The live music scene was very open in Paris, there was a lot of place to play during several years but now it was more difficult as some scene disappear.
Isaac: What do you think of the state of Indie music at the moment? Do you listen to radio much at all? Has the Internet helped music grow or hindered it in your opinion?
Michael: I think that Indie music is the cradle of the creation and very interesting. I have a lot of friends in the Indie music and they are talented artist, already not known, but needed to be. I like listening to radio, not only major radio in France but also online radio. I really think that Internet is an opportunity for lot of artist to be known, but also that a good promotion is needed to appear. Internet helped music to be broadcast and known all around the world.
Isaac: If you could create a fantasy band - what would be the line-up and why?
Michael: It is very difficult to answer this question. May be the best answer is that I think this fantasy band will be with my friends musicians.
Isaac: What CD's do you currently have available and where can they be purchased from?
Michael: My first CD is available online on the most current website like I-Tunes, Amazon, Napster, Deezer.
Isaac: Where can fans access your music, videos, blogs, and anything else about you online?
Michael: Fans can access to my music on MySpace
(http://www.myspace.com/michaelsaranga) and also on other website. Some tracks of the album are also on the air on web radio in the United State, like for example in Indie104 Radio in LA, and Spoke Radio, and may be soon in Junior's Cave radio.
Isaac: Message to your fans?
