New Music Spotlight May 2009 Edition
Minto
Minto
The music band known as Minto is our next spotlight, and they are going to win you over with their unique sound, colorful lyrics, and melodious tunes. The Vancouver band mixes different genres into some of the best sounding music that one will ever hear. And their overall playful demeanor is an added bonus to the band's overall appeal. Check out this recent spotlight that Minto completed with our Webzine. Enjoy!
Isaac: What was the best part of 2008 for you musically?
Minto: Getting all of our songs ready to be recorded in Chicago. We literally jammed and tweaked songs for a full two months, re writing and polishing, it was trying, but so rewarding. Band fights are so much fun. You get to be so mean, then as soon as they are finished, you are back to being pals again.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
Minto: Having Steve Albini say yes to recording a bunch of jackasses from Canada.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in area.
Minto: Vancouver is a strange little city. There are so many sub scenes within all the indie rock scenes. Country, metal, folk, dance. These groups don't really get along too well with each other, so there are lots of attitude around the shows. There is a huge DJ scene here too, which is usually not great for bands, but here it's different. DJ's and bands play the same time, side by side, which is pretty cool. The best part about the Vancouver scene is that there are tons of folks that love to go out and see shows. The worst is that there are no venues. There are 2.5 million people here and like five legal clubs to play at. Sad.
Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?
Minto: Hands down The Biltmore. It went from being a total shit-hole, to the best venue in Vancouver.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Minto: Minto tries to play music from the heart, without being a bunch of whiney babies. Neil Young, Magnolia Electric Co, anyone who knows and loves the stage and the road. There are some really good bands in Vancouver right now. Ladyhawk, probably being the best.
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
Minto: Honesty, in song-writing, a drunken, sing-along live song, a good album called "Lay In On Me" released in July and at least one tragic, untimely death.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Minto: The Arcade Fire. Outstanding Indie Rock and totally original.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Minto: Arena Folk.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?
Minto: People like to bum rush the stage and sing into our mics. That's a pretty good sign I think.
