New Music Spotlight March 2009 Edition
Night Artery
Night Artery
Night Artery is a solo project that promises to push the envelope of traditional music. With his melodious tune, Night Artery is certainly worth the listen. In this recent interview, I had the privileged to speak with him one on one. Here is what developed. Enjoy!
Isaac: Hi Everyone. Welcome to your interview with Junior's Cave. Now that 2008 has officially ended, what are your reflections of the year 2008 for Night Artery?
Night Artery: I was definitely happy with 2008. Things are slowly starting to happen with the EP and I've now written two complete albums worth of material to start recording in 2009.
Isaac: How did everyone come together as a group? What drawn you to each other?
Night Artery: Well, I'm actually a solo artist so hmmm....
Night Artery: Opps, sorry (smiles).
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Night Artery: I don't really tend to get influenced by music that much in terms of writing but I'd have to say there are a few artists that I've loved this year because they seem to be thinking outside the square. Circa Survive, Mew, and The Dear Hunter.
To be honest though, I'm more influenced by films rather than music.
There's something about the whole package of a good indie film that can give me songwriting ideas for days.
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel Night Artery will bring to the music industry?
Night Artery: I aspire to push the boundaries. I've always been fascinated by music where you have no idea which way the song is going to go next. Music that surprises you, grows on you, and maybe even makes you think differently about things. Hopefully, my music can bring some of these qualities to the industry.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Night Artery: I'd have to say Bjork. I'd absolutely love to see how she works and goes about constructing a song. She's a true artist in every sense of the word because she takes every single facet of her art seriously whether it is design, videos, lyrics, music etc... And it's refreshing to hear someone who really cannot be compared to anyone in my opinion.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Night Artery: I guess it's Indie with a bit of progressive and a touch of rock...
Isaac: What can fans expect from your latest CD you are working on currently? What is the inspiration behind the CD?
Night Artery: At the moment, I'm working on two albums. One might be a concept kind of album which will be an array of eclectic styles and hopefully be very exciting. The other, is to write an entire instrumental album in the hope of landing some placements in films... Also, if I get time, I'd love to write a folky kind of album as well. Yeah, so I'm hoping for an exciting year.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from your CD?
Night Artery: The hardest part about doing things independently is getting feedback at all but I've been lucky enough to land some really great articles on some sites around the globe. Most of it has been really positive so that's always good. You can check those out on my website in the press section.
Isaac: What can fans expect from Night Artery in 2009?
Night Artery: Two new albums and lots of new performance videos that I'll throw on YouTube. And if I can start to make a little bit of money, I'd love to do an international tour.
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans…
Night Artery: Well, thank you to anyone who takes the time out to discover new bands and has stumbled on to my music...I've decided to make my EP free now so
anyone who wants it, you're welcome to have it.
