Chiurazzi’s lyrics are full of passion that comes across when one hears Chiurazzi sings. In this recent spotlight with our Webzine, Chiurazzi speaks matters of the heart with us in this special spotlight. Here is what transpired from our online meeting.
Isaac: I just listened to several songs off your new EP/CD. What was the inspiration for making your new album?
Randy: The different views of the same situations that each person has. I was aware of trying to write words that would be easy to grasp but describe universal themes.
Isaac: Who were your influences?
Randy: When I think of who I immediately think about "what" individuals have done that pulled me in. So, Bob Dylan, Blood on the tracks; Cat Stevens, Oh Very Young; Michael Hedges, Ariel Boundaries;
Captain Beefheart, Harry Irene; Leonard Cohen, Tower of Song, Tal Farlowe; yesterdays.
There are others of course, but that is good for now.
Isaac: What do you consider to have been the highlight(s) and lowpoint(s) of your career to date?
Randy: High points-The Internet. I can successfully get my songs all over the world. Knowing people are getting the music is incredible.
Low points- Performing solo when I wasn't yet used to the stage. I am now, but when I was nervous and under confident about playing live, it was awful. Then I got seasoned, and stopped dreading it, and
began loving the interaction.
Isaac: Brief history about your background plus the style of music you play.
Randy: Began when I was 14. Went to music school, completed a music apprenticeship with Robert Fripp and the League of Crafty Guitarists. When I perform with my acoustic guitar, you will hear songs that draw from a wide variety of rhythms and melodic patterns. The words focus on universal themes in life I try to use common words in uncommon ways.
Isaac: How easy is it to gets gigs for you as an artist? What is the live music scene like in your area?
Randy: The music scene in San Diego is fairly vibrant. There are a lot of eclectic styles and venues for musicians at all levels genres.
Isaac: What do you think of the state of Indie music at the moment? Do you listen to radio much at all? Has the Internet helped music grow or hindered it in your opinion?
Randy: I think Indie music is incredibly exciting right now. I sell music on CD baby. People from all over the world are listening to my music. That is incredible. But, we are faced with the daunting task of promoting ourselves.
Isaac: If you could create a fantasy band - what would be the line-up and why?
Isaac: What CD's do you currently have available and where can they be purchased from?
Randy: Thank you to my fans for taking the time to listen. It is really a great pleasure to make the music and even more incredible to have you connect to it.
