One of the best parts about Punk music is the raw energy that one feels when listening to this type of music. Punk music takes you away and allows you to get wild and let loose. This next band will certainly make you do all those things and more with their music. Revenge Club kicks asses and they make good hardcore punk music that one can jam to. In this recent spotlight, I had the pleasure to speak with members of Revenge Club in this ultra cool spotlight. Enjoy!

Isaac: How do you sum up 2008 for Revenge Club?

All: 2008 was a really busy year for Revenge Club. We had lots of shows in San Diego as well as out of town and recorded a 9 song EP. We also had a cameo role in an indie-film, Cherry Mapping, that used some of our songs for the soundtrack.

Isaac: Let's talk about who did the band formed and the concept behind Revenge Club.

As per Maggie (drummer), the concept is to play what we think sounds good and have fun.

Amy: That pretty much sums it up. I started the band in 2004 after my all-girl band broke up. I found a drummer and pretty much drafted Sean (bass), who was my boyfriend at the time (now husband). We play out as often as we can and come up with new songs all the time.

Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?

Maggie: Recording the EP. It was definitely the best recording experience I've had, and I think it sounds good.

Amy: The EP and writing some new songs together, like 'Tracy' 'Did You Die' and 'Explosive Devices.'

Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?

Tony: Led Zeplin and Tom Waits.

Sean: Son Volt, Tom Waits, The Beatles.

Amy: Donita Sparks of L7 is a big one for me. I've always wanted to rock out as hard as her. We got to open for her at the Casbah in San Diego last year. It was awesome! Maggie and I are also big fans of Babes in Toyland.

Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?

Maggie: We bring rock and roll that crosses over genres and eras so everybody hears something they like.

Amy: I feel like we have an original sound and have some variety in our songs. We have super fast punk songs and we also have slow creepy songs. We have a lot of fun while we're on stage and put on a good show.

Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?

Maggie: John Doe, from X, because I think he would like us and it would be rad to jam with him.

Amy: Maybe Trent Reznor - I've always been a big Nine Inch Nails fan and like the weird noise stuff he layers in his songs.

Sean: Not sure about a specific person, but I would love to have worked at CBGBs in the late 70s, early 80s because I would have seen a lot of awesome bands before they were famous.

Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?

Maggie: 70s pre-punk, 80s LA punk, 90s grunge

Isaac: What is your definition for Punk Music?

Maggie: It transcends definition. It's whatever anyone wants it to be.

Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from your previous releases?

Amy: We've had a lot of good feedback - people have said that we have an old-school punk feel, which is cool because I'm not really into a lot of the pop bands that get categorized as punk today.

Isaac: What has been the inspiration behind your latest EP 'The Reds of Their Eyes' released in 2009?

Maggie: Trying not to sound like every other San Diego band.

Amy: Each song had different inspiration. For example, Explosive Devices is a political song disagreeing with our previous administration. Cheap Dates is about getting a bottle of cheap wine on a Friday night and still having a great time.

Isaac: Where can fans locate you at online?

www.revengeclub.net, www.myspace.com/revengeclub, www.sonicbids.com/revengeclub, www.mohawkradio.com/revengeclub

Isaac: What can fans expect from Revenge Club in 2009?

All: Lots of shows and possibly a new record. We have a new guitar player, Tony, and are anxious to record with him. We're working on a Northern CA tour and plan to play in Vegas and Arizona this summer.

Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans…

All: SD Pyrate Punx, Heather from Kadan, The Casbah, The Ken Club, The Radio Room, The Doll Hut, and The Double Down (for some great shows), Chloe & Becca, & Jordan Andreen (for the recording)

Isaac: Final words from Revenge Club…

Maggie: Want to join?
