Gospel Music Spotlight August/September 2009 Edition
Rob Whitlow
Rob Whitlow
Gospel Singer/Songwriter Rob Whitlow has been singing and performing in the church since the young age of 2 years old. Rob's love for God has been strong; his faith equally strong. Rob's father, Rev. Donald R. Whitlow, was an evangelist in the 1970s. His father has been a big inspiration to the Gospel Singer/Songwriter who now is married and has 3 amazing children, Joshua, Ashley and Cody.
The artist's wife, Jenny, is the intercessor for the ministry, and has been Rob's biggest supporter of his music. One of the best parts to Whitlow's music is his modern approach to how he sings and performs serving the Lord. Rob Whitlow's also incorporates nicely into his music a Gospel choir that adds to the heavenly message that Whitlow is singing about to Christians. For those Christians who love Gospel music with a modern twist and a big Choir, then Rob Whitlow's music is the perfect choice. Check out more about this artist in this special Gospel Today spotlight.
Isaac: What was the best part of 2009 so far for you musically?
Rob: Musically, I would have to say it was the release of my sophomore worship CD. It was released June 26th.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
Rob: Oh, getting the band together, finding the best musicians to work with, and that have the same heart for worship that I do.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in your area.
Rob: I am mostly in churches, so I can only take it from that angle. We have some great churches here in Indy musically, our own worship team is fantastic - I also love Pastor Vernon Piercey and the Calvary Temple Praise Band - they are awesome!
Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?
Rob: Wow, haven't done much right here in town - so I don't know if I would have a great opinion there.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Rob: Andre Crouch for style and Keith Green for his heart of worship. I love gospel and I love modern worship - I'm a mess!
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
Rob: Probably nothing. Because my only concern is bringing something for the Lord. He is the reason I do this, and if I go somewhere musically or God chooses to use me to reach the masses - great. If not, that's ok too, because I'm in this for the sake of ministry, not music. Music for me is just a tool, one of many, to bring people into a better relationship with God.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Rob: Probably Delirious? They write great music, and I would love to record a song with them...
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Rob: Gospel with a mix of modern praise and worship.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?
Rob: People say they have been drawn closer to the Lord through listening to the worship. One girl wrote in that the music really helped her through a tough time. I say praise God for that!
Isaac: What can fans expect from you in the next five years?
Rob: Next May 2010, I plan on hosting a 2 day worship conference; we will be recording our 3rd project then.
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans…
Rob: To my wonderful wife and kids - I love you. My Dad and Mom are the best ever, and my brother said if I don't say something here about him and his family - he won't play on the next album! Wait - don't print that! Seriously - To Pastor Meade, Pastor Nathan and the crew at church52 LOVE YOU GUYS!!
Isaac: Final words…
Rob: My favorite Psalm is 34. It says I will bless the Lord at ALL times. When you live daily in worship to God - giving Him praise for ALL things good and bad.... it gets really hard to have a bad attitude. So try praising God for everything, because He is worthy.
