In this spotlight with Junior's Cave, the multi-talented Ryan Maniscalco shares his passion, dreams, and goals with our Webzine. He talks about his one single musician project titled SaveSaturday and what new and old fans can expect from him. Enjoy!
Isaac: How do you sum up 2008 for SaveSaturday?
SaveSaturday: 2008 was really when SaveSaturday began. Although the music I write dates back to at least 5 or 6 years ago, 2008 was when I truly began my music career.
Isaac: Elaborate of the concept behind Save Saturday.
SaveSaturday: SaveSaturday is one single musician who simply loves to play music. It doesn't really matter what instrument, I'm always willing to experiment. Although I do focus mainly on guitar driven melodies, I also enjoy playing other instruments in my songs, as well. When it comes down to it, SaveSaturday is about exploring musical possibilities without restricting myself to a single genre.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in your area and why you enjoy performing there
.
SaveSaturday: My hometown is a quick car ride away from Chicago, and I don't think I need to say much more. The possibilities in Chicago are pretty much endless. In addition, the fans are true music lovers. There is a lot of history in Chicago revolving around music and you can see it every time you perform.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
SaveSaturday: 2008 was a big year because it was when I decided to really take my music playing seriously. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in College (for good reasons, I suppose!) but I wanted to be heard. 2008 was a big year because I decided to make my audience larger and made my music less about me and more about the audience.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
SaveSaturday: I listen to just about everything and I am influenced by just about everyone as well. From Elton John to Joe Satriani, I am really just a fan of music. At the core, I believe I am really a classic rock guy, though!
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
SaveSaturday: Like I said before, I think I have a unique versatility that could definitely bring a lot. When it comes down to it, I really feel like I have a unique brand of music that can please everyone. I think this comes from the fact that I don't limit myself to single (or even closely related) genres. Sometimes I have instrumental rock songs with some heavy electric guitar, and then sometimes I have singer-songwriter type material.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
SaveSaturday: Joe Satriani, without a doubt. He is one of those musicians who I can really feel the emotion is his playing... and he doesn't even sing! He lets you know what he feels through his emotive guitar playing.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
SaveSaturday: It definitely ranges, but it is mostly about the guitar. I love to make songs that are either completely instrumental to focus on the guitar itself, or folky acoustic songs with lyrics, either way I still have a strong focus on what the guitar is playing; definitely music for people who enjoy all types of guitar playing.
Isaac: What is your definition for Rock Music?
SaveSaturday: It's hard to put a definition on it. I consider everything I play to be rock music, but not everything I play is similar to one another. When it comes down to it, I believe rock music comes from those strong emotions that you feel on a daily basis, happy or sad. I think that's why when you hear a good rock song it can really make your heart pound.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from your previous releases?
SaveSaturday: Feedback has always been pretty positive. Most people enjoy the fact the range that I offer. I try to please everyone!
Isaac: What can fans expect from your latest CD, you are working on currently? What is the inspiration behind the CD?
SaveSaturday: The current (and first) CD is literally over 5 years of songwriting material and some covers as well. Really, the inspiration was my life throughout those years. I've always found it difficult to think abstractly and sit down and write music. My music has always been written at night time when emotions from the day are running high. My inspiration is the people I come in contact with throughout any given day.
Isaac: Where can fans locate you at online?
SaveSaturday: They can located me in a couple of places. First of all, my website (www.savesaturday.net) has a lot of good information. They can also find me on YouTube (www.youtube.com/savesaturday), where I post some good music videos and some music that can't be found on my CD! I am also always chatting with people on YouTube, so come by and make a comment :)
Isaac: What can fans expect from h in 2009?
SaveSaturday: A lot! I am getting prepared to release a CD and am also always working on music videos for my YouTube website. YouTube has been a great way for me to communicate with fans and I plan to continue using it a lot this year!
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans?
SaveSaturday: Definitely! Thanks to my family, and especially my father who really got me interested in music in the first place, he is my true #1 inspiration. Also, gotta thank Chelsea, Peter, and everyone else who has given me continued support throughout the years.
Isaac: Final words from Save Saturday?
SaveSaturday: Thanks so much for the opportunity to talk to you guys! Love the website.
