Isaac: How do you sum up 2008 for Scott Wesley?
Scott: This is how I would sum up 2008 for my band and me: Shows almost every weekend all over the suburbs and the city, practicing everyday for those shows, writing and recording my new album.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
Scott: My biggest accomplishment for 2008 was probably getting picked up by Jeff Mclusky and Associates artist development firm. JMA is the 3rd largest in the nation for artist development and promotion.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in Lake Barrington, Illinois.
Scott: The music scene in B-town is kind of weak in my opinion. There are definitely a few good places to play at, but being under 21, it's really hard to get into those. The one good thing I can say about the Barrington music scene is that there are a lot of talented musicians. I have played with some of the best of them, and I feel without that I would not be the artist that I am today.
Isaac: What has been your favorite venue to perform at and why?
Scott: I think the most fun I have had performing would be at the town festivals. We played at Palatine Fest last year and it was an amazing show. One of the most important elements to a good performance is the sound. Another thing is a decent size crowd. Palatine Fest had all that going on. Plus a big, roomy stage is always nice too!
Isaac: What do you feel will be your greatest contribution to the music industry?
Scott: Sending a positive message to a broad range of listeners.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Scott: When I got into middle school, I got really into the jam band scene. The first band I really got into that falls into that category would be O.A.R. I just really enjoyed the whole reggae, feel good vibe that they had. After I listened to them that's the only kind of music I wanted to write. You could definitely tell from my first album that was the feel I was going for. Now that I'm a little bit older, I have been getting into more of the rock/indie scene and I think you can definitely hear that in my newer stuff. In the past few years, I have really gotten into bands like Radiohead, The Shins, Wilco, The Beatles, Flaming lips, and Third Eye Blind just to name a few.
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring as an artist to the music industry?
Scott: I'm not sure. Just like most artists, you try to bring something fresh to the table. There are plenty of bands out there that are doing exactly that although I do feel my music has potential to bring a new sound to the mainstream world.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Scott: Probably John Mayer. Besides his great songs and his top notch voice, he's also a great guitarist. I just think his songs are super catchy and groovy and I feel that's kind of the direction I have been going in lately.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received about your previous release, LP "Open Eyes" released in May 2007?
Scott: I have definitely received nothing but positive feedback about the album but it doesn't really show much in the record sales. I definitely think it had potential to be very successful if it could have gotten out there a little bit more.
Isaac: Where can fans locate you at online?
Scott: Very, very soon my fans will be able to go to scottwesleymusic.com, which is going to be the official website. That will hopefully be up and running in the next few weeks. Until then, you can go to myspace.com/scottwesleyband I have links on the MySpace page to some other websites you can find me at like facebook.com and thenextbigsound.com
Isaac: What can fans expect from Scott Wesley in 2009?
Scott: The biggest thing will be the release of my new album. Besides that, I'm not really even sure. Anything could happen I suppose. We will probably make a music video or two for the new album once it is released. I would really like to set up a tour for the summer, if not; we will definitely be gigging a lot.
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans?
Scott: Gotta give a shout out to all the peeps and homies! No, but seriously mom and dad! You guys will always have my back!
Isaac: Final words from Scott Wesley…
Scott: Be on the lookout for my new EP coming out this summer! It's definitely going to be hot!
