Don't let his young age fool you; Scrypt has accomplished more as an entertainer at the age of 20 years old then most entertainers will in a lifetime. Coined as "A mixture of commercial accessibility and underground credibility" Scrypt is positioning himself to be the next great not to miss act in the music industry. His origins are tied to his hometown in Bronx where Scrypt was sculpted and molded into what he represents today.
With a ton of iconic rap legends such as Big Pun, KRS One, 2 Pac, Jay-Z and more recently, Kanye West, Scrypt, discovering his own gift on the mic at the early age of 10, is ready for the big spotlight. It is our pleasure at Junior's Cave to introduce to the online pages an artist who is going to blow you away with his skills, talents, and essence.
Introducing Scrypt:
Isaac: It is a pleasure to be speaking with you via the email my friend. I read in your bio that you are originally from the Bronx (New York City).
Elaborate on how you entered into the music industry:
Scrypt: Ok well, I started rapping around the age of 10. I got introduced to Rakim and pretty much went out and bought all his records. After that, I pretty much came up listening to Pun, Biggie 2pac and KRS. I would recite the lyrics to the songs all day long and then I got introduced to other types of music. The other types of music made me want to learn how to write a SONG instead of Just rapping verses.
Isaac: As the Hip-Hop industry is growing up, what do you feel you will introduce into a genre that many critics say is dying?
Scrypt: Hip-Hop is no where near its final hour (laughs). I like to think that my stuff does not sound like a lot of stuff out there. Since I try not to listen to the radio or the top 40 stuff, I tend to keep the music different; not strange just different.
Isaac: What is your definition of Hip-Hop?
Scrypt: Hip-Hop is a mixture of attitude and freshness and just plain skills. You can have the flyest gear and suck on the mic and vice versa, you know?
Isaac: If you had to describe why it is important for you to be a Hip-Hop entertainer, how would you sum it up?
Scrypt: Well, Hip-Hop is tough enough. When you have to get on stage and entertain or should I say keep the attention of people, it is harder. I used to watch old tapes of the late James Brown performing that’s kinda how I got my on stage style. I don’t dance but I don’t have a problem keeping the people awake (laughs).
Isaac: Recently, you worked with Philly-based producers, Beat Godz on your collaboration of "Five Finger Discount". The single went on to sell over 3,000 copies, and was an instant hit with the college market. Describe your experience with working collaboration with Beat Godz and what did you gain from that experience?
Scrypt: Well, what a lot of people don’t know is that that album got leaked online after the first 1,500 copies. There were about 40,000 illegal downloads and stuff but it still went on to sell 3,000 which aint bad due to the situation. I learned a lot making that album. That was my debut as an artist and as an engineer since I mixed all the song on that release.
Isaac: What I am enjoying about your music is its sensuality. I feel that it is smooth and very crisp approach to Hip-Hop. How would you describe your music to new and old fans?
Scrypt: Well, my music is really new sounding but can be enjoyed by every one; simple enough (laughs).
Isaac: Recently, you have had some opportunities for music videos, magazine/publication photo shoots and even off-Broadway plays have surfaced. What has this meant to you as someone in the Hip-Hop industry?
Scrypt: Well, the Broadway stuff really helped me develop as an entertainer. Being in front of 200 hundred people a night is the perfect practice for some one like me. I’ve been in some videos and magazines which was fun; it is for sure in my future.
Isaac: How important is the creative process when it comes to making beats, music, and rhymes?
Scrypt: Well, I don’t make the beats but I do mix all the music and that takes a lot of time. The lyrics have to come to me and it has to feel genuine or else I crumble the paper and start over, you knows?
Isaac: If you could perform in one spot in the world, which spot and why?
Scrypt: Hands down Madison Square Garden sold out crowd.
Isaac: When you are on stage and feeling the energy of the audience, how do you continue the level of intensity of the crowd?
Scrypt: Oh man. The energy has to start with me and ends with the fans. They keep me going; I live for my fans.
Isaac: What are some previews from Scrypt in the year 2009?
Scrypt: Well, I am working on my 1st commercial release titled "till the music starts..." coming out around January. The album is completely amazing and that’s not my own words.
Isaac: Family and Friends play an integral role in shaping and molding us. What role did your family and friends play with your own development towards being entertainers?
Scrypt: My family is def a big part in what I do, but the fans are really who I do it for. They stop me in the street at some stores and even one time at the movies just to say hello and stuff and ask how everything is going. I for sure do it for them.
