Indie Blues & Soul Singer/Songwriter Shari Pine is an artist to look out for in the near future. Her enriching soulful voice is one of the artist’s biggest appeals as she brings music to life through each note. Add her wonderful crafted lyrics and music fans are going to have a magnificent treat. Check out what the Indie artist had to say about her music. Here is what formulated from our online conversation.
Isaac: I just listened to one of your songs from your CD. What was the inspiration for making your new album?
Shari: I can't remember it was so damn long ago. (Just kidding) My mother and G-d were my inspiration. My mother passed, so now it's just G-d.
Isaac: Who were your influences?
Shari: Someone might draw similarities and say 'she sounds like she was influenced by... “but I can tell you that my tastes include: classic rock, stax soul, 80's pop, 90's grunge, hip hop, rap, Neil Diamond, Barbra Streisand and Eddie Vedder. No Bluegrass, though. Sorry.
Isaac: What do you consider to have been the highlight(s) and lowpoint(s) of your career to date?
Shari: There are definitely no lows because it's all heading in the right direction. I have faith in that. One gig, the Neville Brothers' drummer, Joe Green sat in on the drumkit at a club in NYC. It was his birthday and he asked if he could jump up on the bandstand. He sounded like a tsunami. That was excitement.
Isaac: Brief history about your background plus the style of music you play.
Shari: Those two words (brief/history) sort of cancel each other out don't they? LOL. In a word: I came by Amtrak via Boston armed as a coloratura but couldn't get the funk out so I wound up singing greasy soul-with-a-pop-tip songs. Pop, because I'm generally happy. Soul, because I'm funky.
Isaac: How easy is it to gets gigs for you as an artist? What is the live music scene like in your area?
Shari: Thank goodness I have enough to keep me wanting more not less. Otherwise that could be crazy. My scene is NYC where there's a bit of everything from subway musicians to Concerts in Central Park.

Isaac: What do you think of the state of Indie music at the moment? Do you listen to radio much at all? Has the Internet helped music grow or hindered it in your opinion?
Shari: Indie music is like potluck. I flip the dial every chance I get to hear what's out there and I don't dislike any of it outright. I do have personal preferences though. The Internet has helped music indirectly, I think. Certainly music saleswise.
Isaac: If you could create a fantasy band - what would be the line-up and why?
Shari: Oh how I like this question. Southside Johnny's Jukes for a horn section, Mariah Carey's vocal choir from the Vision of Love album, and a straight up lowdown dirty Chicago blues rhythm section. Why? Because together those sounds would be the elements that would set me on fire as a performer (I would be on the mic you see!) and then it would all be over.
Isaac: What CD's do you currently have available and where can they be purchased from?
Shari: The Painter (10 tracks written, arranged and produced by yours truly) can be purchased at www.cdaby.com/sharipine and at live shows and maybe the 'packy.'
