StereoTalk
Junior's Cave is excited to bring to our online readers a different side to the music scene out of Atlanta, Georgia that will sure to delight and entertain music lovers. What makes StereoTalk a fun and exciting group is their whole unique fusion of hip-hop, new wave, pop, and alternative into a melodic sound. If you are a fan of such acts as Rage Against the Machine, then StereoTalk will rock your socks off. Here is a recent interview with the band in this fun and super cool spotlight.
Isaac: What was the best part of 2008 for you musically?
STEREOTALK: Meeting each other. We're all so blessed to have an opportunity to make great music - frankly - 2008 seems like a ghost compared to 2009 and we're going to make the most of it.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
STEREOTALK: Completing our album. It's an accomplishment for any group to finish a project as unpredictable and off the wall as this one. But it felt SOOO right, each song just sort of surfaced and our producer (Brian Pitt) has to take the bulk of the credit of making it sound as dynamic as it is.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in Atlanta, Georgia.
STEREOTALK: It's funny. See if you asked us about the "Rock" scene. I'd say the best stuff is underground. We know that a couple of tasty nuggets like Cartel and Family Force 5 surfaced and they have a great sound. Still, the rock scene is quiet unless you keep your ear to the ground.
Rap and Hip Hop music is another story. Atlanta is the home of some of the biggest names in Rap (Luda, OutKast, TI just to name a few) but these artists dominate. The lesser known groups haven't explored anything different in terms of sound. We listened to other artists as we've performed across the city and most of them sound EXACTLY the same! It's disappointing. We want to hear something exciting and new - I guess that's what we're here for. ;-)
Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?
STEREOTALK: Man. That's tough. We've played a variety of venues and events within the past five months that it's hard to narrow it down. We really enjoyed playing at MixTape Television. They were super nice and said they never had that much fun interviewing artist before! Total Cha Babay!
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
STEREOTALK: If you asked us individually you could spend an hour or two with each of us. We can't narrow it down to one, but we can break down (a little) about our influences. Jonny Craig and Kanye West are two that stand out. We love the energy and vibe they bring, even though we know they're sounds are worlds apart. David Bowie is a huge influence because of his ability to reinvent his sound again and again all-the-while remaining very interesting and relevant. A few people have compared us to Gym Class Heroes. Gym Class is really tight, and without them it would've been harder to compare what we're doing to anyone else. But Rage Against the Machine mixed with the Gorillaz is much better comparison in our opinion.
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
STEREOTALK: Hopefully we can bring something refreshing. We're all bored with modern mainstream music. It's very generic. We like the sensibility of remaining a pop group, but don't want to compromise our sound. Don't expect us to get whinny either. Fuck that. We can't. We love ourselves too much (ha!)
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
STEREOTALK: Just one! Jesus that's tough! Many times we've all thought about that. Danger Mouse would be a good one. We love his ability to draw darker tones. Michael Jackson would be really fun too. Recently, we worked on a new song that might be really good if we could get Gwen Steffani on board. You got her number?
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
STEREOTALK: A Live Action Jerry Springer Show, covered in Apple Sauce.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?
STEREOTALK: Mostly Positive! Our fans tell us "You're AMAZING!" and "I LOVE YOU" very sweet nothings in our ears.
Isaac: What can fans expect from you in the next five years?
STEREOTALK: Something evolved. Our first effort (although it sounds great) is only the beginning. Stay seated throughout the entire ride and experience the rush!
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans?
STEREOTALK: Mom(s) Dad(s) we love all of you. Thank You for your support. Thank You Brian for being so patient with us.
Isaac: Final words…
STEREOTALK: Waffle Crisps is the greatest cereal on Earth.
