New Music Spotlight August 2009 Edition
Sun Dry Cilo
Sun Dry Cilo
Get ready to be amazed by the sounds of the Southern Florida Rock/Alternative band Sun Dry Cilo. What makes this band especially fun to listen to is their overall style; a combination of Creed meets Soundgarden meets Pearl Jam. The band's lyrics are also an added plus that many fans can relate to when listening to Sun Dry Cilo's music. In this recent interview with our Webzine, we had the pleasure to speak to the band about their music. Here is what developed.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
Sun Dry Cilo: In 2008, we were still trying to figure out what kind of band we were. Our biggest accomplishment of 2008 happened on the night we performed in a 40 band Battle Of The Bands at Revolution Live in Ft Lauderdale. Not only did we play on a huge stage, and were awarded 2nd place out of 40 bands, but we met Maestro Manny of Flower Blade Records that night which led to us signing with the label and recording our debut album.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in your area.
Sun Dry Cilo: Miami is terrible for the music we do. There aren't many good bands but even the few that are good don't get much support and most shows end up being 4 bands who each bring about 10 friends. We are fortunate to have one of the larger followings in South FL and play lots of shows with the other popular bands like Day Music Died and label mates, Vladez. But if you aren't doing Latin music or hip hop down here no one cares.
Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?
Sun Dry Cilo: Revolution was the biggest. The Capacity there is over 1,000. However, our favorite we have played is Temple in Coconut Grove. We had our CD release show there and the sound and stage were perfect. Our performance was filmed and released a video of the song "Fly So High" which can be seen on our YouTube channel. And it's hard to say it wasn't amazing playing at the Hard Rock Cafe during the "Ambassadors of Rock" Battle of the Bands.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Sun Dry Cilo: We are heavily influenced by bands from the 60's through the 90's such as Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Guns N Roses, Led Zeppelin, Opeth, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Creed, The Beatles, and Faith No More. As musicians, we also follow and idolize some great ones like Les Claypool, Terry Bozzio, Slash, Eddy Van Halen, Freddie Mercury and many more bands and musicians that innovate and push us to be better.
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
Sun Dry Cilo: At the moment, Hard Rock has become very bland and everything that comes out sounds like it's been done a million times. We take our inspiration from many decades of great bands and put our own twist on it to create our songs, which we feel stand apart from modern Rock and could take the Hard Rock genre in a new direction. We also take our individual crafts very serious and believe we can be the ones that future generations pick up guitars to idolize. We believe we will inspire and create change in the Hard Rock genre.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Sun Dry Cilo: All four of us would love to throw out a bunch of names but we would never say the same name twice. So we are going to go with........Christina Aguilera.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Sun Dry Cilo: The fusion of the finest Hard Rock elements performed with extreme energy.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?
Sun Dry Cilo: If there has been any negative feedback, we haven't heard it. As soon as the album hit the Internet, the word started spreading. New friends started joining us on MySpace and adding songs to their iLike and using our music as their profile songs for their social networking pages. The biggest Rock radio station in South Florida, 93.1 Rock, featured us as the artist of the month, and it's been nothing but praise so far.
Isaac: Where can fans locate you at online?
Sun Dry Cilo: On myspace.com/sundrycilo you can find everything we have and links to find us on other websites and purchase the album.
Isaac: What can fans expect from you in the next five years?
Sun Dry Cilo: Well we are planning to tour in support of our debut album. We don't plan to stop until everyone knows who we are. And when we feel there is nothing else we can do, we will go back in the studio and begin our 2nd album. Our hair will probably be longer in 5 years.
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans…
Sun Dry Cilo: We definitely have to thank our families for all their help in getting us this far. Thanks to our friends and fans for always being there for us and following us around no matter where we are or where we play. And of course, thanks to everyone at Flower Blade Records and GlassWorks Multimedia for all the time and work they put into us and this album.
Isaac: Final words…
Sun Dry Cilo: Spread the word! See us on tour if you get the chance.
