The Black Rabbits

Sonicbids

Sometimes when one is looking for something special, he or she does not need to look far. In the case of some great music, The Black Rabbits are the perfect formula. With their catchy tunes and fun lyrics, the band blends a nice mixture of the old and new in rock and pop. The core members of the group consists of brothers Jetson (guitar/vocals) and Skyler (drums) Black with bassist Reah Smith. The young group has an old soul. Check out the fun for yourself in this retro cool spotlight.

Isaac: Briefly describe how you entered into the music industry.

The Black Rabbits: We still don't consider ourselves in the music industry. Those who are making a living off of music are far and few in-between hopefully one day that will be us. But, in the meantime, “would you like fries with that?”.

Isaac: One of the reasons why I was drawn to you guys is because of your style. Briefly elaborate on your background:

The Black Rabbits: We grew up in what use to be a small town in Florida with not many other kids around. Our dad would always play good music from the 60's and 70's for us and we loved it. One of the first songs we wrote was called "The Elvis Song". It pretty much consisted of Skyler screaming over and over "I'm Elvis Presley!"

Isaac: What is the most rewarding aspect to making music currently for you?

The Black Rabbits: Being able to write songs that people enjoy and really connect with.

Isaac: What has discouraged you the most about making music?

The Black Rabbits: Writing music has never discouraged us; dealing with the current music industry has.

Isaac: What does being an entertainer mean to you?

The Black Rabbits: Giving others enjoyment with the talents that you possess.

Isaac: Do you have a personal philosophy about music? If so, what is it?

The Black Rabbits: Write with your soul, listen with your heart.

Isaac: When you are performing live in front of an audience, what are the thoughts that are running through you head?

The Black Rabbits: A lot of different things or sometimes nothing at all. Being on stage is kind of like a lucid dream. When you’re done and walk off, all you remember is the feeling and bits and pieces here and there.

Isaac: Why is being an independent musician important to you?

The Black Rabbits: We need to have control over the music we create. Having someone tell you how to write and record is like having someone tell you how to dress.

Isaac: Do you think the Internet has altered the path of music as an industry? If so, how?

The Black Rabbits: It has had a noticeable effect on the industry. People no longer buy as many albums because they can just get it in a few clicks for cheaper.

Isaac: Any advice for other musicians out there when it comes to using the Internet as a medium for getting their music heard to the masses?

The Black Rabbits: The Internet is the best tool for bands who are not on a label with a publicist. When you have a show in a certain area, promote it on MySpace by adding locals in the area. I know this has worked well for us.

Isaac: What kind of recording software do you use?

The Black Rabbits: Whatever software the studios we go to happen to have.

Isaac: I know that everybody has his or her idea of a dream artist, someone who for whatever reasons that person would just love to listen to and admire. As an entertainer yourself, if you could play with one of your "dream" musicians, anyone at all, who would it be and why?

The Black Rabbits: Neil Diamond because of his sexy voice and song writing.

Isaac: What are you hoping to gain from your experience of being a musician and making music?

The Black Rabbits: It's not about what you get, but what you give.

Isaac: What are you hopes for your music in the year 2008/2009?

The Black Rabbits: I hope that we can get our music heard by the world, go on tour, and get on a good label. That's the dream, isn't it?

Isaac: This is our Shout Out time. Please give props to anyone and everyone that matters the most to you.

The Black Rabbits: God, our parents, our friends, and our fans.

Isaac: This is Shameless Plug time: Give us some updates on new releases and other projects in the works.

The Black Rabbits: We are currently trying to get a good producer so we can record our first EP. Up until now we have only been recording demos to give away and sell at shows, but who knows what the future holds.

Isaac: Final Thoughts:

The Black Rabbits: We'd like to thank you Isaac for having us on Junior's Cave. And to all of the readers, be sure and support the local bands whose music you enjoy, it means a lot to them.
