Keira Verlee & Ellie Rose make up the outstanding duo known as VerleeRose. Both are fantastic Singers/Songwriters who have mastered the artful skills of guitar playing to match their angelic vocals. In a recent interview with the duo, Keira and Ellie talk music with our Webzine and share a piece of their world with our online readers. Here is what developed.
Isaac: What was the best part of 2008 for you musically?
Ellie: We started writing together in May of 2008 and that was really cool but playing our very first show together was totally the highlight, it was just so exhilarating and exciting.
Isaac: What do you feel was your biggest accomplishment for 2008?
Keira: Writing and recording our first CD which was released in March of this year.
Isaac: Describe the music scene in area.
Keira: Seattle is a great place for live music. There are so many all ages' venues and lots of amazing bands. Besides, the big touring bands, there's always local bands playing and great open mics all over the place that can be lots of fun.
Isaac: What has been the best venue to perform at and why?
Ellie: We had our CD release at the Columbia City Theater which was really cool. It's an old theater that has been totally remodeled. It was a full house and all our friends & family came too. The sound system and the engineer were incredible which really topped it off.
Isaac: Elaborate a little about whom were your biggest influences in the music industry and why?
Keira: Death Cab For Cutie is a big influence. Not just because they are from Seattle... Ben Gibbard's lyrics and melodies are genius.
Ellie: The Beatles are a big one too. I love how simple their lyrics are, it makes the songs very easy to relate to, yet they still have lots of meaning.
Isaac: Let's talk about what you feel you will bring to the music industry?
Keira: Well that's kind of an awkward question. It's hard to answer without sounding like I'm bragging. Hopefully we can inspire people in some way with our music.
Ellie: Of course, we want to get a record deal and all that, but mostly I really would like to have our songs mean something to someone. To have someone listen to our music and have it give them a certain feeling.
Isaac: If you had an opportunity to work with one artist or group, who would it be and why?
Keira: Even though most of them are dead, I would have to say the Beatles because they have made such incredible music and had such a big impact. I have loved them ever since I was little.
Ellie: I agree! The Beatles are incredible and so talented. I wish they were all still here so they could continue to touch the world with their music.
Isaac: How would you describe your music to others?
Keira: It's hard to put music into categories... we call it acoustic indie pop.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from fans about your music?
Ellie: Most of the feedback we've received has been really good and we are very grateful for it. Just the other day we got a message on MySpace from a Marine stationed in Japan. He said our music made him feel like he was back home with his family. Intense... definitely the best compliment we've gotten.
Isaac: What can fans expect from you in the next five years?
Ellie: Wow, five years is a long time! We're going to keep playing shows, writing and recording and working hard to become the best we can be. We're working on new material and hope to go back into the studio this fall.
Isaac: Time for some shout outs to your family, friends, and fans…
Keira: I want to thank everyone who listens to our music, you guys are awesome! And a HUGE shout out to our friends and family, they are great support!
Ellie: I want to thank all my friends who I hear humming our songs and then realize I notice and get embarrassed, I don't mind! it's the best feeling you can imagine! And all my family and friends for always supporting me, you guys are the greatest.
Isaac: Final words…
VerleeRose: We want to thank Isaac and Junior's Cave Magazine for putting us on your website! It's so great that you support indie music!
