JC Interview Exclusive: (June 2009) Rising Star Wes Ramsey
Wes Ramsey
Our next spotlight comes from an amazing talented young actor who is a rising star in Hollywood. Wes Ramsey has portrayed some fantastic characters from popular shows both on daytime and nighttime television. One of his most notable roles has been the portrayal of Wyatt Halliwell from the hit series Charmed during its run. Now, the charming actor is tackling new roles and gaining new fans. Here in this exclusive spotlight; Wes speaks with our Webzine about his movie career and the roles he has portrayed. Enjoy!
Isaac: Hi Wes, I wanted to first wish a good morning. Let's get started with the interview. You are most notable for your portrayal of Wyatt Halliwell in the hit WB Series, Charmed. Where you sad to see the show end?
Wes: Of course. Most actors will admit they don't want to see any job come to an end...
Isaac: What was the best part about playing the character of Wyatt Halliwell?
Wes: Getting to struggle with the age old dilemma of good vs. evil and which one will prevail. Kind of hard to top that one.
Isaac: Describe the best storyline you enjoyed while on the show of your character Wyatt?
Wes: (see above).
Isaac: Who was your favorite actor/actress to work with on-screen on the series Charmed and why?
Wes: All three girls. They are relaxed and professional and wonderfully talented. Easy on the eyes too... : )
Isaac: Did you have any inputs into how your character would play out on the show? If so, how?
Wes: They don't leave the important decisions like that up to us.
Isaac: If the series were to ever come back, would you reprise your role? Why or Why not?
Wes: I love the idea of reprising any role I've ever played.
Isaac: You also co-starred in the CBS Daytime series Guiding Light as Sam Spencer from 2000-2002. How was working on a daytime series different from working on a night series? What were the most rewarding and difficult aspects to working on Guiding Light?
Wes: Daytime is the fastest medium there is to shoot by far. Most people don't realize the level of difficulty in shooting so much so quickly and still making it entertaining. Guiding Light was my first professional job out of theater school so for me the most rewarding part was learning about the camera while working. I am currently enjoying daytime again for the first time in over six years. I have been working with Days of Our Lives and enjoying being a part of that fast paced medium of storytelling again. There's really nothing else like it. We could spend a week or two shooting an hour episode of Charmed. You shoot that in a day on a soap, so everyone has to have there stuff together because there is no luxury of time on your side. The advantage of a prime time schedule such as Charmed or CSI: Miami which I was working on earlier this year, is that the time allows everyone to refine the work specifically and add effects, etc. that will make the show look incredible. Time is a luxury on any set. It also helps having a lot larger budget to work with.
Isaac: One of your biggest films that you starred in was Latter Days. How did you come about getting the role of Christian?
Wes: After leaving GL in NY to move out west, that was the first film I was fortunate to participate in. I just auditioned like everyone else believing in the story's potential to transcend cultural boundaries and enjoying the challenge of bringing it all together.
Isaac: Where you nervous to tackle this role? How did you prepared for the love scenes? Where you nervous about kissing another guy on screen? Why or why not?
Wes: I don't think there's room to worry about things like that or it will show in the performance. My job was to tell the story. You have to believe in yourself and your instincts if you want your work to be believable.
Isaac: What type of feedback have you received from playing the role of Christian?
Wes: It's phenomenal. It was just released on DVD in Buenos Aires a fan explained to me in a letter. I have been humbled and amazed how people still write to me from every country around the world to share their personal and powerful connections to the film from their own lives. It has a way of reaching people that any artist hopes to achieve at some point with their work. I was and still am very fortunate and grateful to have been able to participate in that collaborative achievement.
Isaac: Let's talk about some other projects that you have been working on since you left the show. I know you are working on a film entitled The Immortal Voyage of Captain Drake. Elaborate a little about this film.
Wes: Another great opportunity. A check off the wish list. A pirate movie. Every kid wonders what it would be like to be a pirate. I feel a bit closer to the answer now. We shot it in Eastern Europe for the sci-fi channel and had a blast discovering the humor in the script wonderfully penned by Rafael Jordan.
Isaac: What is next for Wes Ramsey? What are some up and coming projects that you are working on currently?
Wes: My hope is to continue on the two shows I have been working on recently, CSI: Miami and Days of Our Lives. Working in daytime or primetime could satisfy my palate. Being able to juggle them both is the real dream come true.
