Our newest interview comes from the Indie band Wighead who has created a fantastic sound that is full of raw energy, powerful lyrics, and enriching vocals. What makes this band especially fun to listen to is their unique blend of Pop and Psychedelic that comes out sound unique, original, and stylish. Check out what Evan and Chris of Wighead had to say about several questions we asked them in this super chic spotlight. Enjoy!

Isaac: What are you currently up to?

Evan: Working on promotion for the new record, The William and Edward Frontage EP; by Wighead.

Isaac: When you compose a song where do you get your ideas from and how does a song evolve?

Chris: I spend most of my day sitting in front of a piano banging around and I usually write about 5 songs a week. Whenever I write a song, I usually compose it, record a few demos of it and then sit on it for a couple of months or so to decide if I really like it. I think I recorded Bad Idea a dozen times over the course of a year before we started playing it.

Evan: I usually take all my killer guitar licks to Chris where he and I will flesh something out that resembles a song. After that, we'll take it to the rest of the band, Airon Wessinger and Tyler Hall, who'll then show us how to make it a great song. I'm not really much of a song writer so, for the most part, the lyrics come straight from the mind of Chris.

Isaac: What are the rewards and challenges about being in a band?

Evan: A great reward for me is playing shows to really energetic and responsive audiences; if you screw up here or there it all seems to brush off if everyone's enjoying themselves. Plus, we usually end up selling more merchandise.

The challenges would be trying to get out on the road in-order to reach a wider audience. Being poor makes it hard to tour as frequently as we'd like to.

Isaac: What tracks does the band most enjoy performing live and why?

Evan: We have two newer songs I really enjoy playing; one is called "All the Charm is Gone From Living in the Belly of a Whale" and the other one is currently untitled but we refer to is as the Past the Pasta song (despite the fact there's neither mention of pasta nor the passing of anything). I think I like playing them so much because their sounds are pleasing to my ears.

Chris: I always like playing "Bad Idea" because we have this big sing along at the end where the audience joins in and it's always cool to hear everyone singing my dumb words.

Isaac: What do you think Wighead need to do to gain more exposure and fans? Has the Internet helped spread the word about the band and its music?

Evan: I think we need to tour more. The Internet has done a lot of good for us (it did land us this interview), but it can only get a band so far. We need to get ourselves out there.

Chris: The Internet plays a great role in promoting. Before you had to print out a couple of dozen fliers and drive all around town taping them up, now with social networking we can gain about the same results as that. Having our music readily available for anyone to hear anytime is also pretty handy.

Isaac: Could you take us through some highlights of the first studio EP coming soon?

Evan: Every song is a highlight! We got in contact with some really great musicians to help us out with the record. Rather than the guitar, bass, drums and keyboard driven stuff versions we do live we reworked the songs with alternative instrumentation, The resulting sound is more like Pet Sounds meets Flaming Lips. And it's all thrown onto a 7" vinyl.

Chris: We have some nice cellos, horns, and all sorts of vocals coming out at you. We were really trying to create a wall of sound kind of experience. I'm a really big Phil Spector fan. Except for the killing he does.

Isaac: What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

Evan: The band is my spare time. But sometimes I read or watch television shows on DVD.

Chris: I like to stare at the wall and pretend I'm in a space ship on a journey to Jupiter, but there's nothing to do until we get there except stare at the wall.

Isaac: Message to your fans?

Evan: Please buy The William and Edward Frontage EP when it comes out.

Chris: Yes please do, if we sell enough copies I might be able to eat something besides my usual can of corn heated over a pile of burning tires. The tires really take all the great flavor out of the corn!!

Isaac: Final Thoughts...

Evan: Make sure you keep checking http://www.wigheadcentral.com for updates on The William and Edward Frontage EP release.

Chris: I wonder when they'll finally get around to inventing flying cars! It's way past the year 2000! I don't care in they're powered by baby seals, I just want one!
