JC Interview Exclusive (Celebrity Interview with Rising Actor, Yuval David) August 2010 Edition
Yuval David
Rising actor Yuval David knew from when he was a kid that acting was something he wanted to pursue. The actor would entertain his family and friends by putting on shows and creating colorful characters. Today, Yuval is living out his dream of being an actor and taking on diverse roles to fulfill his desire to create everlasting characters that others will enjoy watching. In this spotlight with our Webzine, we speak to the young actor about his passion for acting and upcoming projects that he is working on. Here is what transpired from our online encounter.
Isaac: Hello Yuval! Our Webzine is super excited to have you featured on Junior’s Cave. Let’s get started. Were you always interesting in acting or did you happen to stumble across it?
Yuval: Yeah, basically, I have always been into acting. When I was a little kid, I used to put on shows for family and our friends using my cousins and other neighborhood kids. And, even as a kid I would have fun imitating and mimicking anyone whom I found to be interesting and unique.
Isaac: That is too cool.
Isaac: What has been one of the best rewarding experiences you can talk about from acting?
Yuval: The exploration of humanity, the human soul, is quite a beautiful experience. As and artist, especially a performing artist, I explore humanity by finding and creating a character, and then sharing it with an audience. It is an exhilarating experience to affect an entire audience, composed of different people, and get them all to laugh together or cry together.
Isaac: What has been one of the worst experiences from acting that you have experienced?
Yuval: Hmmm. That is a bit of a tough question. I really love so much of what I do. I strive to be a positive thinking person, focusing on the good in life. Yet, there are those in the Entertainment Industry who do not live that way -- that is probably where the worst experiences come from. Hahaha.
Isaac: Of all of the projects you have worked on so far, what do you feel has been your favorite project that you have completed and why?
Yuval: Oh, gosh -- another tough question. Anyone who knows me well knows that I can sometimes be indecisive. I have been remarkably fortunate to have worked on a variety of projects with great people. It has been fantastic to play roles like Romeo on stage and then play a serial killer in a horror film. Also, my doing just about any accent leads me to play an array of characters from around the globe -- I really love doing that.
Isaac: What movie/film do you consider a masterpiece and if you had the opportunity to make something similar briefly describe what type of film it would be?
Yuval: As a fan of Shakespeare, doing a film like Shakespeare in Love, would be great. I enjoy doing period pieces. Or, any of the true character pieces made by Almodovar, like Bad Education or All About My Mother. I also enjoy edgy films like American Beauty, or intensely dramatic films like The Pianist. I also love comedic character pieces like Best in Show, and fun and quirky comedies like Young Frankenstein.
Isaac: What type of roles do you find to be the most fun portraying and why?
Yuval: Playing characters who go through a major catalyst in the script is fun for me as an actor, because it is interesting to find how the character must change in order to persevere. Also, I enjoy playing those characters who have something to hide, or have something going on which they do not reveal until later in the script -- that allows me to add extra layers to the character. Of course, it is immensely rewarding and exciting to play very quirky and comedic characters living on the extreme.
Isaac: What do you enjoy the most about performing live in front of an audience while on stage and why?
Yuval: There is nothing like live theatre. I have to make bold choices, be totally "on," and take great risks with the characters -- because in front of a live audience there is no room or time for mistakes. You cannot go back and do another take, like in Film or Television. Those wonderfully intense moments get the audience in complete stillness, totally engaged in what is happening on stage. And, the high energy comedic moments get the audience to burst at the seams, laughing uproariously. Acting is exposing oneself, exposing the character, and doing it on stage in front of an audience is heightened because it is just that, live and in front of an audience.
Isaac: How do you handle the stress of being in entertainment industry; what do you do when you are not acting for fun and relaxation?
Yuval: Sleep, eat well, hang out with family and friends, play sports, take yoga class, bike...basically normal everyday stuff.
Isaac: What do you want to achieve for your career in the entertainment business?
Yuval: I aim to achieve a significantly greater level of success, playing leads in powerful films and doing theatre in between.
Isaac: What are some currently projects you are working on now?
Yuval: I just wrapped two independent films and am about to start another. Now being mostly in NYC again, in addition to film and television, I am doing voice overs and workshop theatre productions.
Isaac: Words of wisdom and final thoughts….
Yuval: Oh, be careful with that one. Philosophizing is one of my favorite pastimes. How about this...: Live life as an adventure, find the excitement and the joy in everything you do, and remember that love is not only an emotion, but it is also a state of being. And, since we have been talking about acting...I'd say, engaging in art is a must for the soul -- it is the only way you can run away and escape without ever needing to leave! How was that? Hahaha.
