Interestingly entertaining and uniquely original are what comes to mind when describing the music of DeVries. Led by Travis DeVries this new group is emerging on the scene ready to capture the hearts of thoudsands of new fans. In this spotlight with our Webzine, we had the enjoyment of speaking with front man Travis DeVries about the band's music, new material, and what fans can look forward from them in the near future. Here is what developed.

Band Members

Travis DeVries - vox, guitar
Sean Gibbons - lead guitar
Martin Glazier - guitar
Johnny Lancia- bass
Kuki Kooks - drums

Isaac: I just listened to one of your songs titled, "Darkest Summer". What was the inspiration for making this song and your new album?

Travis DeVries: This song is about loyalty and how much it seemed to be lacking in so many relationships I held dear. The album had many inspirations. Each song has an inspiration. Transgender children, Mormon history, Nikki Sudden's death, 1st love and the economic crash. Sadness may be the one theme throughout.

Isaac: Who were your influences?

Travis DeVries: Henry Miller. I'm still trying to make an album that sounds like Black Spring makes me feel. This and 90's Brit pop to Phil Spector to Bob Dylan.

Isaac: What do you consider to have been the highlight(s) and lowpoint(s) of your career to date?

Travis DeVries: Writing and recording "Broken Heart", then no one caring.

Isaac: Brief history about your background plus the style of music you play.

Travis DeVries: I was obsessed with The Cure and then 90's shoegaze. I'm still exorcising these obsessions.

Isaac: How easy is it to gets gigs for you as an artist? What is the live music scene like in your area?

Travis DeVries: It's getting easier. I've been pretty lucky with this. I like the scene in Brooklyn though I'm still getting to know it. I just moved here.

Isaac: What do you think of the state of Alternative music at the moment? Do you listen to radio much at all? Has the Internet helped music grow or hindered it in your opinion?

Travis DeVries: There's good and bad like always. You have to dig like you always had. Now it's just easier. You can hear anything online. Even get recommendations for similar artists. I hate the radio. No one should dictate what you listen to. Why would anyone choose to have a complete stranger, who is paid to pick what you listen to- with commercials? The only good thing is when they support unrecognized bands.

The Internet has definitely helped music become even more accessible but it's also allowed everyone to just have it for free. Again, there's good and bad.

Isaac: If you could create a fantasy band - what would be the line-up and why?

Travis DeVries: I think that already happened on Primal Scream's "Shoot Speed Kill Light".

Isaac: What CD's do you currently have available and where can they be purchased from?

Travis DeVries: "Death To God" is available online from Noise on Noise records @ CD Baby, and digitally @ Amazon, iTunes, etc...

There are also a couple free albums from The Turn-ons online @ www.theturnons.com, and a few more available on Amazon and iTunes too.

Isaac: Where can fans access your music, videos, blogs, and anything else about you online?

Isaac: Message to your fans?

Travis DeVries: "The closer to church, the further from God."
