Hood.

One of my jobs at Juniorscave’s Music Now is to present some of the best Indie performers out their in the Indie Culture. I take pride in giving the readers of our Internet Magazine some of the best talents out there currently. You can add another artist to the list: Hood. As described in his bio as “Hip-hop and Jazz find themselves involved in an apocalyptic creative synergy, a mesmerizing convergence of power when Hood kicks off his creative process”, Hood can be described as the missing link between the two genres.

This Is His Story:

Henry H. Royster III a.k.a. Hood was born Jan. 13th of 1971 in Flint, MI. When he was 12 years old, his mother gave him his first keyboard for Christmas. Ever since that moment, he has been making tunes and being creative in everything he does. Hood’s love for music began at an early age when he would listen to music on the radio of other legendary artists rapping. This fueled him to want to do the same as he started to rap at the age of 20.

Hood stated that “my brother and I, also with a friend of mines, used to write our own lyrics and I made the beats off my key-board and recorded on cassette. I lived on the North-Side of Flint during the time”. He also stated that “I’ve been playing and making music ever since I got my keyboard. I used to play by ear capturing the tunes I heard on the radio. My music is different than what other artists are saying out here now. I tend to make it hit where the heart is and make people think about certain; things that happens to us all in our everyday lives that we live”.

He goes on to state that “I play my music to rehearse over my lyrics and looking for any flaws which I might stumble upon. I let other people listen to it, just to get a review of how they like it. I want to earn money doing my music and performing, I like to show everyone that it's more of a business establishing one's self showing the world how creative you can be”. Hood also revealed that “I have collaborated with several unsigned artist that's trying to make it as well as me. We have a great chemistry goin' on. I would love to perform with some legendary artists one day”.

One of the most interesting parts of the interview was when Hood detailed that “there are a whole lot of other artists around me, but just a few who have the same outlook as me. I ran into these guys name Grip Manson, Krow, D-Doc, D-longs, and Yahman. Most of us work together”.

As we concluded the interview, Hood went on to state that “I would like to pass my tradition onto those who listens and want to learn. It's important because times are getting harder and major records labels are very hard to crack if you don't know anything”. As far as his favorite song, Hood stated that “I have too many favorite songs, but the ones that reach people that appreciate music. I love the jazzy and piano tunes that people play.

Finally, I asked Hood what attributes he feels make a good performance. Hood explained that “what makes a good performance is when people come up to you and tell you, “You did a great job and when your next gig is?”” Hood also believes that “a good song is when people understanding your experience that your pouring out to them and they feel what your feeling. I judge a song by listening to the words that the person is saying. There's always a message to a good song”.

For final props, Hood stated that “I want to thank you for this Interview and the people that have read it. Also, you can find out more about me and other stuff that I do by visiting my website at http://www.myspace.com/hood1324”.

Much Love & Respect!
Hood
