Video Game Rock! | |
I am a huge fan of alternative and rock add a splash of metal with it and you have a great winning combination. This is where Fenix Down comes in--the group created in 1998 by Tony Hanson, is bringing something very unique to the Indie community. One of the biggest elements to the group is that the group is actually very good--hell they are awesome. But, you will have to check them out for yourself to judge for yourself. Fenix Down has stated that they have "successfully combined the influences of Final Fantasy, video game soundtrack, Hard Rock, and metal to form what they have coined as Video Game Rock" (Fenix Down).

Here is a quick Q & A that Fenix Down took the time to answer for the magazine.
Q. What aspect of making music excites you the most right now?
A. I'm sure like many artists, seeing how our music affects our fan is a huge payback.
------------------------------
Q. What aspect of making music gets you the most discouraged?
A. Sometimes, writing can get off to a slow start, it can definitely be annoying and very discouraging.
-------------------------------
Q. What are you up to right now, music-wise? (Current or upcoming
recordings, tours, extravaganzas, experiments, top-secret projects,
etc).
A. We actually have a few things going on right now. Currently, we are working on our own video game, in which we are seeking to release it via XBOX. It's a rpg that combines final fantasy, dungeons and dragons, and a lot of personal ideas. We are also working on an on-line comic which is currently on our website. It's based on the story of the video game.
Finally, musically, we are collaborating on a remix album with DJ Skribbles of 4 songs off our debut album back in 2006. Fenix Down will also be writing about 6 songs in a similar fashion. We will release the album before the end of the year.
-------------------------------
Q. What's the most unusual place you've ever played a show or made a
recording? How did the qualities of that place affect the
show/recording?
A. We've been in a few studios for our previous demos and album. It's pretty much down to business when we are recording. A lot of Chinese food and pizza. That's basically the experience. :)
-----------------------------
Q. In what ways does the place where you live (or places where you have
lived), affect the music you create, or your taste in music?
A. Here in NY there is a lot of different music happening from local to professional. In response, you have people with very diverse tastes. I think it keeps our ears open and has opened the doors for something new. When writing our songs, we are all able to pull upon many different tastes.
-----------------------------
Q. When was the last time you wrote a song? What can you tell us about
it?
A. We are currently writing songs which I would best describe as upgrades. We still have our sound but we have gotten a little smarter with our presentation, performance, and our direction of style.
----------------------------------
Q. As you create more music, do you find yourself getting more or less
interested in seeking out and listening to new music made by other
people...and why do you think that is?
A. Ah, I dunno, you constantly hear something here and there that strikes a note. There's always something to be learned somewhere if your paying attention.
----------------------------------
Q. Lately what musical periods or styles do you find yourself most drawn
to as a listener? (Old or new music? Music like yours or different from
yours?)
A. Gotta love the 80's!! :) We find ourselves always reaching back to something in that silly decade.
---------------------------------
Q. Name a band or musician, past or present, who you flat-out LOVE and
think more people should be listening to. What's one of your all-time
favorite recordings by this band/musician?
A. Tool has a lot of talent and in our opinions one of the best out there. Any album you like, they get better as they go.
--------------------------------
Q. What's the saddest song you've ever heard?
A. Iris, by goo goo dolls. Very heartfelt and real this song really hits the mark. To top it off it off it has one of the best bridges of its kind.
