SEPTEMBER 2005
Racing 2 The Finish Line with Shannon Faust COLLEGE FOOTBALL September 2, 2005 The Georgia Bulldogs played their first game today against Boise State with a victory of 48-13. The Broncos were totally overwhelmed by Georgia, which didn't seem to have any trouble replacing David Pollack, Thomas Davis and Odell Thurman, three defensive stars who moved on to the NFL. Finally getting to start as a senior, Shockley threw five touchdown passes and ran for another score in the season opener today. Shockley, meanwhile, took over as the No. 1 quarterback after backing up David Greene the last three years. Shockley completed 16 of 24 passes for 289 yards - numbers that would have been even better without four dropped throws. He also rushed five times for a team-leading 85 yards, even though a 23-yarder was brought back because of an illegal block. As Boise State coach Dan Hawkins ran off the field at halftime, he was asked by a television reporter why he took out Zabransky. "Did you watch the first half?" Hawkins replied. In addition, Zabransky fumbled at the end of a run in Georgia territory, costing the Broncos an early chance to get back in the game. He finished off a miserable day by mishandling a snap from the shotgun with less than a minute to go in the half. Georgia recovered, and Shockley threw the touchdown pass to Ware on the very next play to give the Bulldogs a 24-0 lead heading to the locker room. The Bulldogs led 38-0 before Boise State finally scored. Next Saturday the Dawgs will play South Carolina and Sept 17 they will play Louisiana
