Eric Clyde Gill and Sol Leon Chance talk comics with Junior Davis

Hello Folks, I had the pleasure of speaking to two young men, Eric Clyde Gill and Sol Leon Chance , this Saturday morning. This is what Close to the Coast is all about; spotlighting folks in the community and surroundings area. Well, these two men are doing something that I have always dreamt of doing next to starting my own magazine- they are starting their own comic book company with tons of original characters and storylines to no ends. What makes this company stands out from the rest is what I learned in the interview.

We met on a beautiful Saturday afternoon around noon at Books-A-Millions in Joe Mugs, the coffee café. As I was seated across from Eric in the café’s seating area, I glanced to look at the array of folks in the café. As I begin to get comfortable sipping on my Sam Choice’s water, I begin to press record on my digital recorder and plug in an external microphone so I could ensure I would pick up on every word from the two men.

Here is the Interview I had with Eric and our very own Games and Comics Editor, Sol.

JD: Eric, how are you doing today?
EG: I am doing well.

JD: Before we get started, could you tell us a little about yourself?
SC: (playfully saying) I guess we can’t cuss on here.
JD: No, (laughing) I really have this digital advice for me-old age. So, Eric tell us about yourself?
EG: Well, it is not much to tell. My full is Eric Clyde Gill, um…. do I need to go into more details? (pause for a second) I am 29 years old. That’s about it. I really do not think abut myself much.

JD: Ok, I heard from a reliable source (looking over at Sol’s way) that you are working on a new project? Could you tell me and our audience a little about the project?
EG: It is a book about Werewolves and Vampires pretty much. Our favorite thing! And before Underworld came out, we were talking about a Hybrid of sorts but we did not get our out in time.
JD: So, you guys are going to scratch that idea.
EG: No, we are going with it. I never did like the look of the Hybrid in Underworld but we are still going with our idea but in a different way. (laughing) We have changed the storyboard so many times…

Well, how is everyone doing today? It is December 19, 2005 , and I am ready for the Holidays to be over. Don't get me wrong, I love the Holidays and all the warm feeling that goes along with it, but I hate all the rude folks that make this wonderful Holiday suck. As for what's new in Comics and Games, there are a ton of stuff to talk about here.

Well gang, are there a sleuth of Comic-Related Themes out there in Movies, Television, DVD, Cable etc.? Well, the answer is YES YES YES. I mean with all the new stuff coming up everyday;it gets hard to keep up with all the new development going on in the industry. But, we are here to please. Let me start off by saying that I am very pleased with the direction that Hollywood has taken with comic-related Themes. Remember the days when comics book adapations were a joke? I mean, come on folks, did anyone see the Captain America or Fantastic Four movies? they were a joke. Now, speed up to 2005, and one can see the major difference between the FF Movie 20 years ago from the FF Movie 2005.

Let's get started. X-Men 3 will be out in May of 2006. This third installment to the very lucrative franchise is way into production, but word on the storyline has been kept on hush hush for now. One source tells us that the storyline may center around on Jean Grey’s “death” from the 2 movie; she would become the Dark Phoenix in this one. Other reports tells of a story involving the Sentinels; Giant-mutant killing robots. As we learn more, we will reveal it here.

Superman Returns is making his way back to the hearts of Americans in 2006. This installment will take up from Superman 2 disregarding the very much flops Superman 3 & 4 movies; The Late comedian, Richard Pryor starred in Superman 3 as a super-intelligent computer-geek villain. Many say that movie killed the franchise with number 4 finishing it off. We will have to wait to see if this new version can restore the franchise back to its glory years. X-Men and X-Men 2's director, Bryan Singer, opted out to do X-Men 3 so he could direct Superman Returns. He called doing this movie his "dream".

Remember, Batman Begins, starring Christian Bale as Batman and Katie Holmes, gave Warner Brothers back its franchise. The 120 million dollars movie made an amazing 200+ million at the box office. Now that is what I am talking about. Hollywood has seen that these movies can be very profitable. Batman Begins is now out on DVD. If you have not seen this movie, than you are missing a treat. This movie gets a solid "A" from me. I enjoyed this version.

Stay tune for next week when I will have more information for everyone.
