Johnny Bennett:
Round II

Sonicbids

Johnny Bennett

On September 25, 2007, the magazine had the distinct pleasure to introduce to our online readers the magic of Johnny Bennett. With his rugged good looks and southern charm, Johnny is winning the hearts of many fans. With powerful rock vocals and soulful tunes, Johnny Bennett promises to capture new fans with the release of my next full length CD, The Violet Hush. I had the honored to hear one of Johnny's singles entitled World on fire. I was blown away. Johnny and I recently spoke again as he revealed many new and exciting things going on with the entertainer. Here is chapter two of our interview.

Original Interview is located @

Isaac: Hi Johnny, it is a pleasure to feature you once again in our online pages. You have been quite busy since we last spoke. What are some new things that are coming up for you?

Johnny: Hey Isaac, It's great to be here on Juniors Cave again. 2008 was a very busy year for me with the release of Red Light Room and the tour that followed.

Coming up I have the release of my next full length CD, The Violet Hush, it's release date is April 8th, 2009. AAA Radio, Press and Web Campaigns begin on February 1st, 2009.

I am performing in Los Angeles and New York in March and planning to make my first trip to perform in the UK/EU in late April / May.

Isaac: How do you handle all the pressure to make another successful CD?

Johnny: The Violet Hush is my forth full length CD plus there's been some EP's in there as well. I think it gets a little easier each time for me. Learning how to write better songs, being a stronger musician, studio experience from past sessions, and choosing the right producer, in this case Duane Lundy, all help to take the pressure off.

The pressure that doesn't seem to go away is financial and administrative. I handle that pressure with caffeine and nicotine.

Isaac: What has been your inspiration in developing your newest project?

Johnny: The first inspiration for The Violet Hush came in Los Angeles. I remember searching for poems about Los Angeles and trying to write a series of songs inspired by living there. I found a poem by L. W. Milam that had a hostess named Violet Hush.

"The violet hush of twilight was descending over Los Angeles as my hostess, Violet Hush, and I left its
suburbs headed toward Hollywood. In the distance a glow of huge piles of burning motion-picture
scripts lit up the sky. The crisp tang of frying writers and directors whetted my appetite. How
good it was to be alive, I thought, inhaling deep lungfuls of carbon monoxide."

The poem sparked my imagination. I think of The Violet Hush as the very early morning hours that I grew to love during the writing of these songs.

Isaac: I had a chance to preview one of your newest singles, "World on fire". It is smoking! What can you tell fans about this new single?

Johnny: Hey Thanks! "World on fire" was written in one session at my place in Los Angeles. It was inspired by numerous conversations about the world with close friends and listening to the news via mostly by radio.

The title was inspired by a poem by Jim Morrison, The World on fire.

"The world on fire...taxi from Africa...the grand hotel...
He was drunk a big party last night, back going back
In all directions sleeping these insane hours I'll never wake up
In a good mood again I'm sick of these stinky boots"

With the song, I really just wanted to be a reporter of the news. I wanted to give an objective opinion about the state of the world and ask why we all fight each other when there is clearly enough to go around.

Isaac: For those who would like to pick up some of your music, where can they buy your music online?

Johnny: The Violet Hush will be available at many locations on line by its release date April 8th, 2009. The first place to hear samples is http://myspace.com/johnnybennett and the full CD will be available by February 15th at http://johnny-bennett.com you'll be able to find it at about 75 music stores on line in April.

Isaac: What do you feel 2009 will bring for Johnny Bennett?

Johnny: Well I hope that The Violet Hush is well received at radio and press and that it reaches a lot of people world wide. I hope to tour more than in 2008 and hope that my efforts to expand into the UK and EU are successful.

Isaac: Are you working on any new music videos; if so, when should the video be out for our viewing pleasure?

Johnny: I am in the works to shoot a music video for "World on fire" in the first two weeks of March in Los Angeles. This will be my first broadcast quality video and I have high expectations for it.

I am also working with 10 directors on a YouTube style "Violet Hush Series" Each director will be choosing a song and producing a video using public domain footage for it.

I am doing a 90 day "Violet Hush Series" blog beginning February 1st and these videos will be released during that 90 period attached to the blog.

Isaac: Do you feel that you accomplished everything you set out to do for 2008?

Johnny: Yes, I think everything came around nicely in 2008. I was able to get The Violet Hush produced on the momentum that came from Red Light Room and its tour. I guess everyone feels like they could have done more; I feel that way as well.

Isaac: Where can folks locate you on the Internet?

Johnny: My main hub is my MySpace page: http://myspace.com/johnnybennett from there folks can get to my Web, iLike, iMeeem, Facebook and Twitter pages. My main Website can be accessed by: http://johnny-bennett.com or http://theviolethush.com

Isaac: Shout outs?

Johnny: The list is long but here are a few. You of course for putting this interview together! Suanne Gray, Daune Lundy, The Band, Derek Jones, Tal Russ, Jeffrey Smith, Kyle Meredith, Todd Valentine, Agent 5 Design, Jim Hollingsworth and Josh Bernstein.

Isaac: Final words from Johnny Bennett?

Johnny: Thanks again Isaac for helping me get the word out about The Violet Hush. I really hope your listeners enjoy the new release!
