Miki Howard - Private Collection

Miki Howard has enjoyed the type of success that many others have only dreamt about and is perhaps one of the greatest R&B singers of our time. With a string of super hits including her two number 1s "Ain't Nobody Like You" and "Ain't Nothin' In the World", Miki Howard should be considered a household name. Miki's signature song, "Love under New Management, is a timeless masterpiece that shows the musical range of this talented diva.

It is now the year 2008, and Miki Howard is once again gracing us with her incomparable presence. With utmost pleasure, please allow Junior's Cave to introduce a beautiful and talented mega star to our online pages. Here is the exclusive interview that Junior's Cave has captured with the songstress.

Isaac: Miki, it is a pleasure to speak to such a mega star as yourself. I am a huge fan of yours and could not wait to interview you.

MIKI: Thank you so much.

Isaac: Let's begin by talking about how you came to decide that making music was your path.

MIKI: I was born into music. Both of my parents were very successful in Gospel music.

Isaac: One of your biggest accomplishments included a Soul Train award win for best new artist and American Music Awards nomination for favorite R&B/Soul female. When you won the Soul Train award, describe the thoughts that were running through your head.

MIKI: It was incredibly exciting. I was very happy to be acknowledged in such a way.

Isaac: Did winning this award meant something more special since it came from your own community?

MIKI: Absolutely, I love my community and it felt great to win a Soul Train award. My people have always been supportive. I've won a few awards from the black community, including an NAACP Image Award.

Isaac: You have experienced some rough spots in your life including a broken marriage and a couple of losses. How were you able to overcome them?

MIKI: My faith in God... and God's faith in me.

Isaac: How did motherhood change you as an artist?

MIKI: I had less time to invest in my career, so it had a take a back seat for a moment.

Isaac: Miki, "Love under New Management" is considered your signature song. Why do you feel that this album was such a huge success?

MIKI: We hit the nail on the head with that album. People wanted and needed to hear those songs. It set the pace for the success of the next single "Ain't Nobody Like You" and the next album, "Femme Fatale."

Isaac: For those you are not aware of this, you managed to say busy making music including "Miki sings Billie" after your portrayal as the legendary Billie Holiday in Spike Lee's "Malcolm X". Describe your experience of working with Spike Lee and making this album.

MIKI: Spike was incredibly detailed and warm. He was very aware and incredibly talented.

Isaac: When you received the Grammy nomination in 2001 for your album "Three Wishes", what were some of your initial reaction?

MIKI: I was in total shock and awe. To be nominated for a Grammy for an album that wasn't a big commercial success was mind blowing.

Isaac: Your latest release is entitled Private Collection. Elaborate on the creative process of making this album and what you are hoping to gain from it.

MIKI: Chucki Booker and I were trying to make me feel better through song. I felt like no record company would work with me on any "new" approach to music, due to the nature of today's music business. You have to be Bouncy and Fab! I'm all of those things also... but I’m mature sexy and Fab!

Isaac: If you had an opportunity to collaborate with anyone out there in the business industry, whom would it be and why?

MIKI: I love so many... Pharrell is first to come to mind.

Isaac: Where can your fans (including me) purchase the new album and when is its official release date?

MIKI: The CD is available now! You can get your copy at miki-howard.com.

Isaac: Final thoughts coming from the Insatiable Miki Howard.

MIKI: I'm happy to introduce this record as "my first!" and for me, it is my first. I love all my fans and thank you so much for the years of support and love.
