Everyone seems to detest Monday mornings. And I am no exclusion to this one here. But, I may have a resolution for all of us. What about Mondays in Bed? That sounds like a great idea. Well, this next group is just that: Mondays in Bed. What makes Mondays in Bed a fun group is that they genuinely seem to have fun at making music.
Mondays in Bed is headlined by singer/songwriter Bobby Quick. Quick, who hails from Akron, Ohio, grew up listening to groups such as The Beatles, The Cars, and The Clash. One can easily see some of these influences in the delivery of Mondays in Bed’s own musical style. Check out a recent online interview that Mondays in Bed took time for their busy schedule to complete with Junior’s Cave.
Isaac-Joseph: How is everyone doing this Sunday afternoon?
Bobby: Everything is great, and it was a day where I didn't have to be anywhere!
Isaac-Joseph: I am very thankful for you all allowing me to interview you guys. [Directed to Bobby] I read in your bio that you started with the group, Zero Parade under Acme Entertainment. How was that experience for you and what do you bring to the table to Mondays in Bed that you learned while with Zero Parade?
Bobby: First of all, Zero Parade was a blast. The 4 of us really enjoyed playing and working together and there was NEVER a dull moment. Kind of like Jerry Lewis playing with Carrot Top..you never knew what to expect. We learned a lot about the industry and writing.
You have to write songs that both sides like..yourself as the writer and the listener. A lot of writers fail to do this, writing only for themselves(masterb@#$#), or putting out something only because they "think" people will like it because it sounds like everything else, so therefore it should sell too.. It's a balancing act.
Isaac-Joseph: One of the coolest aspects of your bio that I really enjoyed reading about was that while at Zero Parade: “The band then became stable mates with Aerosmith on Magus Management, where the band enjoyed college radio success with their Justin Niebank-produced CD”. How was that experience for you?
Bobby: Unbelievable experience. Justin Niebank was such a pro. I could write a book on what "not to do" in the business! Hold your management, labels, accountable, and it really is a "partnership" between artist and their support (label, management). Sorry, you don't get to be the naive rock star letting everybody take care of life for you. Maybe after you second Gold Record!!!
Oh, and I always regretted not running into Liv Tyler at Magus's office...
Isaac-Joseph: For anyone in our audience (who may not know Mondays in Bed) reading this: Who is Mondays in Bed?
Bobby: Mondays in Bed is my creation, for good or bad. I wanted to keep writing my style of guitar rock that's not trying to solve the world’s problems, but gives the listener something to hang onto. The name I picked because when I first started to try and make it in music, I didn't do it for the fame, money, or women. I wanted to be able to sleep in...
Isaac-Joseph: How important has the Internet been for getting your music across to the masses?
Bobby: We're gonna find out. It's like sailing into the new world. The barriers of entry are falling, much to the chagrin of the labels. I've seen kids who don't know what CD's are anymore, let alone vinyl and analog tape...It's all moving so fast.
Isaac-Joseph: At the end of the day, if you really had a choice between fame, fortune, or just getting your music heard-- which one would you choose and why?
Bobby: Music heard period. Being any kind of artist, it's an "energy out" endeavor. Having the "energy" coming back at you (getting the music heard), is first and foremost. And sleeping in...Have I mentioned that yet?
Isaac-Joseph: With the success of such music resources like Music Submit, what advise can you give to new bands just getting started about utilizing these music resources?
Bobby: First of all, Keep recording, and work on getting a good product. Too many bands don't even record. It separates and gives you focus. Then, absolutely market the resources available in this digital era. Music submit, etc..
Isaac-Joseph: What has been one of the roughest times for Mondays in Bed? How were you all able to overcome it?
Bobby: I had to shelve the whole recording 1/2 way thru it for 6 months because of family matters. Completely mothballed. I LOVE to write and record, so just not being able to work on it was tough. You have to persevere in life. It's ALWAYS a battle.
Also when it was mastered, the engineer somehow managed to digitally convert the time signature so it sounded like a slow drunk elephant singing. That was an interesting day....
Isaac-Joseph: If I am looking for Mondays in Bed, where can we find you over the web? And in a city near us (looking for tour dates)?
Bobby: Digitally, you can go to http://www.mondaysinbed.com, CDbaby, Itunes, to name a few. It seems like I'm networking somewhere new every other day besides the big well known ones.
No plans on touring yet, but that may change soon.
Isaac-Joseph: As we wrap this one up, we are your last thoughts that you would like to share with us here at Juniorscave.com?
Bobby: It's fantastic that Juniorscave.com and all the other musical endeavors that are taking place on the web are allowing musicians to connect with an audience that is craving something new and exciting. That's what’s fun about music, the next new cool band. When your a music fan, and you discover that cool new tune, it's like its "your band". The whole mechanism of how this takes place is changing fast, and sites like JuniorCave.com is making it happen.
Thanks!!!!
