Save my Soul
Music producer and attorney Edward Lyman is bringing to the music industry a human condition that many would shy away from in their music. Save my Soul is a project that expounds on human suffering of extreme poverty, famine and disease. What he and the others that have worked on this album are hoping to get across to the masses is that suffering of another human being should never be ignored especially when there are children involved.
One of the uniqueness of this album is that it captures the innocence of the young who gives us hope in a world full of pain. Check out this interview that we were honored to complete with Edward.
Isaac: Briefly describe how you entered into the music industry and why you decided to do such a wonderful project.
Edward: I've been producing dance tracks and dj'ing since the 80's back in Chicago....The idea for this project was spontaneous. I was shooting a documentary about malaria in Africa and felt like I could do more to help out.... so I started using some of the audio equipment to record songs performed by children....
Isaac: One of the reasons why I was drawn to you guys is how you are using music to inspire. Briefly elaborate on your background:
Edward: I'm an attorney and producer in Los Angeles.... always drawn to projects that can help other people out.
Isaac: What is the most rewarding aspect to making music currently for you?
Edward: That it keeps you going in life whether it's the beat or the feeling; it just keeps me sane.
Isaac: What has discouraged you the most about making music?
Edward: Nothing discourages me.
Isaac: What does being an entertainer mean to you?
Edward: I would not say I'm an entertainer; more of a producer.
Isaac: Do you have a personal philosophy about music? If so, what is it?
Edward: Music is subjective. I like what I like; you like what you like.
Isaac: When you are performing live in front of an audience, what are the thoughts that are running through you head?
Edward: I only perform as a DJ occasionally in front of audiences... and my thoughts are,
"I hope they can feel this...like I feel this..."
Isaac: Why is being an independent musician important to you? Do you think the Internet has altered the path of music as an industry? If so, how?
Edward: Not only have computers altered the path of music; they formatted it and if you use Windows; they crashed it...
Isaac: Any advice for other musicians out there when it comes to using the Internet as a medium for getting their music heard to the masses?
Edward: Come up with a long term Internet strategy. Realize major artists have significant financial resources to promote themselves....if you want to beat them, your material can't be as good as theirs, it has to be better.....
Isaac: What kind of recording software do you use?
Edward: Apple Logic.... I can't ever switch back to the PC.
Isaac: I know that everybody has his or her idea of a dream artist, someone who for whatever reasons that person would just love to listen to and admire. As an entertainer yourself, if you could play with one of your "dream" musicians, anyone at all, who would it be and why?
Edward: Produce a track with Dr. Dre!
Isaac: What are you hoping to gain from your experience of being a musician and making music?
Edward: Well right now, we just want to help save peoples lives with this album...
Isaac: What are you hopes for your music in the year 2008/2009?
Edward: I hope we can release another volume of this album in 2009.
Isaac: This is our Shout Out time. Please give props to anyone and everyone that matters the most to you.
Edward: Truly, the people that matter most are the people that don't have a voice.
Most of the artists on this album may never be heard when they get older. Over 3,000 kids die every day in Africa from malaria....I want people to be more aware of this cause... and help fight it, give these kids a voice...
Isaac: This is Shameless Plug time: Give us some updates on new releases and other projects in the works.
Edward: New releases in the works are Save My Soul - Music to Prevent Malaria Vol. 2
and a documentary called Devil's Cataract about Malaria
Isaac: Final Thoughts:
Edward: Thanks so much Isaac!!!! Hope to hear from you soon about this Album!!! Appreciate any effort and help you can give us in getting this message out!
