The Archimedian Point

Sonicbids

Our Webzine recently spent some time with a two-man band who certainly is keeping Hard Rock music alive with their own spin on the popular genre. Meet Daren Hudson (Drums) and Jeremy Shelton (Guitar, Vox) who elaborated on what music means to them and how they plan to keep rocking hard for the purpose of entertaining the masses in this ultra cool spotlight. Enjoy!

Isaac: Let’s get started with this interview. When and how did you first become interested in music? How long have you been playing music?

the pOiNt: Not sure if there is a discernable point in our lives when we can say music first interested us but I know personally that I have always been affected by music and feel that it is one of the most immediate and tangible artistic expressions. With other pursuits; film, painting, etc. Intention of the artist is not quite as accessible as a song. We have both been playing since we were teens and we actually played together in a four piece for several years before solidifying into the archimedian pOiNt. We have been doing the ecurrent thing for two years.

Isaac: Who would you say are your biggest musical influences and why?

the pOiNt: Musically, we are influenced by any one that does it their own way. We are children of the nineties alternative era and it is pretty evident that we like to think outside the box, occasionally setting the box on fire. We are influenced by those that hit it big with their own style such as Nirvana and System of a Down but we also truly appreciate artists such as Jawbox and State Radio that will plug away their whole career doing what they love the way they want to do it. We also have much love for other duos: Local H, white stripes, The Black Keys, the Terrible Airplane... there are more of us than you might think.

Isaac: What has been the greatest highpoint in your career so far?

the pOiNt: We are doing what we love to do. Every moment we spend living our dream is a highpoint even if it does not seem like it at the time. We are just grateful to have an opportunity practice our passion.

Isaac: What draws you to want to play the type of music that you do?

the pOiNt: We feel like the song itself defines the style more than anything, where as we can broadly be considered a Hard-Rock band, a stylistic change will always occur if the cong demands it. We practice keeping our versatility and eclecticism alive by playing acoustic shows and doing alternate versions of our songs.

Isaac: What do you feel it takes to play this type of music that you play?

the pOiNt: Passion!

The Archimedian Point

Isaac: What do you think you will create that will make your performances and who you are stand out in the music industry?

the pOiNt: Well the two man band thing has certainly put us into a small niche in the music industry. I believe our ability to create larger than live tunes with rocking soundscapes will ultimately speak louder than any thing I could say.

Isaac: If you had the opportunity to do one cover, what cover would you do and why? How would you put your own spin on this cover?

the pOiNt: I have always wanted to do a medley mixing two Beatles’ classics together. We would start out doing “Everybody’s got something to hide 'cept for me and my monkey” and then break into the ending of "I want you...she's so heavy". Of course, we would rock both of these tracks out...

Isaac: What does it take to be a good songwriter?

the pOiNt: Passion!

Isaac: What is your definition of being an Indie artist/band?

the pOiNt: As far as indie goes, it needs to stop defining a genre, Just because you sound a certain way does not make you indie. People are doing it themselves doing all sorts of styles and that is what makes you indie because it is short for INDEPENDENT. It is a total slap in the face every time the next wonder band comes out from a major label music machine claiming it is Indie.... whew! Sorry had to rant a little :)

Isaac: Where can fans access your music online?v the pOiNt: Downloads are free on our MySpace.(www.myspace.com/archpoint3) but you can also preview tracks by searching for us on iTunes or CDBaby. Hard copies can be ordered direct from us @ www.findthepoint.com.

Isaac: In five years…….

the pOiNt: We will still be rocking... how bout you?
